Fit Mama Friday - By the Numbers

Fit Mama Friday – By the Numbers

Today, I thought I’d look back on all my past Fit Mama Friday interviews and guest posts and come up with some statistics for you! Fit Mama Friday launched back in February 2013 and since my very first Fit Mama Friday post (featuring the lovely Elli), I’ve featured 51 amazing mamas and 1 awesome dad!

To get started, let’s see what most of my fit mamas and fit dads prefer as their workout:

Fit Mama Friday - By the Numbers

The majority are in the gym, lifting weights, and other strength training as their main workout. Right behind the gym-goers are the runners, making up 33% of the series. Yoga, CrossFit and Dance are all tied at 8% of the field, with just a handful of mamas doing Pilates or taking part in triathlons. (No, they don’t add up to 100% – many of the respondents had more than one preferred form of exercise).

Some of the more unusual preferred workouts have included Zoe teaching herself ballet in the middle of the Australian bush, Kim who does a daily exercise with as many repetitions as her ageΒ (currently 44 reps a day!)Β Alaya who decided to teach herself Kettlebells, dancer Jaya who invented her own dance fitness class and now teaches it, Lucinda who isΒ a hockey-playingΒ mom rather than a hockey mom, Angi who started fitness classes for people and their dogs, and Alexa who became a pole dance fitness instructor after falling in love with the workout.

And where are these Fit Mama and Fit Dad Fridays from? Sadly, it’s not a very multi-cultural bunch:

Fit Mama Friday - By the NumbersI clearly need some nomination help, here! This map is pretty indicative of the Fit Mama Friday readership, but I would love to feature some fit and healthy parents from all over the world. Who do you know from a different part of the world who would like to be featured on the series?Β Nominate them! Share the link for the archives and ask if it’s something they’d consider doing.

Some more statistics for you:

Fit Mama Friday - By the Numbers

Although the jobs of Fit Mama Fridays are varied, I’ve featured 17 bloggers and 11 personal trainers in the series, a nod to the fact that I know a lot of bloggers and trainers! Included amongst the Fit Mama Friday professions have been an English professor and poet, a lawyer, a charter school founder, a photographer, a boat captain andΒ more.

They’ve had to overcome injury and illness, setbacks and tragedy. Emily suffers chronic migraines and still works out through the pain. Saskia was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease after her first pregnancy. Amy suffered due to hip dysplasia, leading to two hip reconstructions. Taylor ended up in the ICUΒ diagnosed with May Thurner Syndrome immediately after giving birth to her first son. Aimee deals with the stress and pain of her youngest daughter having a serious neurological impairment by running.

Finally, although I have often claimed that the majority of my Fit Mama Friday parents say that working out first thing in the morning is the best way to get your workout done, it turns out I am a big liar liar pants on fire. Only 32% of featured parents work out in the early morning. Of those, though, there is an impressive 4:30am workout time by Robin, closely followed by Casey getting her gym-time in at 4:45am. Brava, ladies!

    1. Thanks Britt! It was fun to put together and I was actually surprised by some of the stats.

  2. So interesting! You’ve done some great research too on our own blog and that’s inspiring. Someone asked me today what my most viewed post of all time is, and I had no idea how to find that out.
