Working (Out) Mama

The Future of Fitness

What’s the future of fitness? Check out the latest article on my Working (Out) Mama column on The Stir this week, all about whatΒ we can learn from kids. “I believe the children are our future..” (It’s in your head now, isn’t it? Sorry). This is a topic I’ve written on before, but I think these four points are really what it all boils down to – do you agree? Check out my article over there: 4 Workout Lessons Moms Can Learn From Their Kids.

Speaking of motherhood, I was so excited to read yesterday that Lindsay from The Lean Green Bean is expecting #BabyBean! (Their photos to announce the news are so cute). Congrats to Lindsay and her husband Brett, I can’t wait to follow along with her pregnancy! πŸ™‚

Tomorrow on Fit Mama Friday I’m featuring a fellow Sweat Pink Ambassador, Susan Fishback, who writes Simply Modern Dance. Susan has two boys and lives in beautiful Cape Cod. While she’s been a dancer all her life, Susan took up running a year ago, as a way of pushing herself out of her comfort zone. It’s interesting to read about how it feels for a new runner who is new to the sport and finds it challenging – it reminds me how much hard work is involved in doing anything you love. Please check in tomorrow and support Fit Mama Susan!

Fit Mama Friday - Meet Susan

In other news, my half marathon training post next week will be interesting…I put my back out yesterday morning and am trying to recover. How did I do that? Sneezing. I am not even kidding. As well as my training update, there will likely be a post on dealing with back pain coming up!!

Have you ever had back pain? Isn’t it the worst?

Have you ever tried something purely because you knew it would challenge you?

If you’re preggo or have had kids, did you have a fun way you announced you were expecting?

    1. Yes, the foam roller has been my friend. It feels way better today, for sure. Thanks, Lacey!

      1. Carly, may I ask what kind of foam roller you’re using?
I’m currently building a site all about foam rollers and would like to get different opinions from people using foam rollers on a regular basis.

        Thanks
        Daniel

        1. Hi Daniel, I use one of those black high density foam rollers. I also have a tiger tail but I don’t use it as much. I am way too chicken to try one of the heavy duty rollers!!

  1. My entire push for this healthy lifestyle change instead of just focusing on losing weight is because of my two little ones. They are 1 and 2 and I’m determined to lead by example and learn all I can now, so they grow up with healthy habits and live in a way that was a struggle for me. We spent the morning playing at the playground and those little ones got me so energized I kept going with a workout during naptime – gotta love Spring and renewed energy!!! Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to read about Susan tomorrow because I am a new runner and don’t have the benefit of an athletic background.

    1. That’s so awesome, Kristin! Isn’t it amazing how much energy the little ones have at the playground? I swear Roman would just run around until he dropped if I didn’t wrestle him back home occasionally.

  2. I am so behind on my blog reading this week – I missed Lindsay’s news!
Sorry about your back – I’ve only had one time when I hurt my back really badly – it was awful – I was home alone and trying to carry stuff up the stairs. I was pretty much stuck but I told myself to suck it up and get upstairs – a few days of complete and horrible pain. I hope that your back is better soon!

    1. I’m so happy for Lindsay! Very exciting. My back is definitely getting better, it just was out of nowhere. It is such a bummer because it’s so integral to every. single. movement. you make, so I’m constantly aware of it.
