Fit Mama Friday - Meet Annie

Vicarious Vacation Land

Have you missed me? I’ve been in vicarious vacation land – it’s really fun! Fran got a new job (yay!) and had some time off between finishing up at his last job and starting the new position. So, he’s been home, hanging out with me and Roman, going to the gym, playing lots of video games, you know, basic staycation stuff. At first, I thought, ‘Awesome! I’ll have so much extra time for blogging and running, I’ll probably have posts scheduled for a month in advance!‘ What actually happened was that I started thinking I was on vacation too (even though I was still training all my clients). It’s been lovely, but next week you’ll see a few more posts from me.

In the meantime, check out the new Running tab on my menu – I’ve added a drop down to easily access my Running Tips series, race recaps, all of my NYC Marathon training posts, and my current Half Marathon PR Quest posts.

Tomorrow, I’m featuring an amazing fit mama on Fit Mama Friday! Annie Brees is badass. She got into powerlifting after realizing her heart was in lifting weights. Her account of her first powerlifting competition is well-worth reading. It did not go as planned. In fact, it began with her failing a major portion of the meet. This mama didn’t quit, though. Just reading it made me realize what being an athlete is all about. Please check in tomorrow to give Annie props for her drive.

Fit Mama Friday - Meet Annie

I just found out my eldest nephew Jack is playing in the drum corp today welcoming Prince William and Princess Kate to my hometown. How cool is that? I’m so proud of him. The royals are visiting this beautiful lookout, Echo Point:

Have you ever felt like you were on vacation when you weren’t?

Do you have any topics you’d like to see covered in my Running Tips series?

Did it snow where you live this week, even though it’s halfway through April?!?

What’s your hometown like?Β

    1. It was so lovely, Marcia – it doesn’t happen too often in grown-up life that we both have a flexible schedule!

  1. I have definitely felt like I was on vacation when I wasn’t, and I have also NOT felt like I was on vacation when I was!
All I need is my husband to take a day or two off of work when it strangely coincides with mild weather. That. Is the best.
My hometown was cool! It’s actually considered now to be a top place to raise your kids in Morris County, NJ.

    1. I actually read recently that Morris County NJ is a great place to raise kids! I have also felt like I wasn’t on vacation when I actually was. I once had a stressful job (before I decided to become a personal trainer) and I vividly remember being so stressed about stupid work stuff (that I don’t even remember now) that it totally ruined a vacation.

  2. How fun are staycations. Even though I don’t get them often, I do enjoy them. When I have time off from work I’m usually traveling or I go see my family up in P.A. since I live in Virginia Beach and don’t see them as often as I like. That’s so crazy that it snowed in some parts of the country this week. So ready for summer!

    1. Since most of my family is in Australia I don’t have so much time for weekend visits! πŸ˜‰ I’m ready for summer, too!

  3. I do the same thing! When I’m home, I tend to just do other things rather than blog etc. I’m the worst!

My hometown looks nothing like Echo Point but I doubt many people can say theirs does. Actually every time I am in Australia I marvel at how beautiful and spectacular everything is. I lived on the Harbour but those views will never get old to me! My hometown was a small, typical New England town with the white churches and everything. I was glad to call it some for about 20 years!

    1. I remember the first time I saw a tradition NE town and just thought it looked like something out of the movies! It’s so funny that what seems commonplace through familiarity can have such a beauty to it when viewed with fresh eyes.

  4. Yes!! Spring break for the boys turned into a little vacation for me, too. Even though I still had to do some work for the business, I spent way more time just hanging out and letting a lot of stuff go. Glad you treated this week like a little vacation!
