Scenes from a weekend #28

I know I said I’d be giving you a Brooklyn Half Marathon recap today, but it turns out I LIED! It ended up being such a fun weekend that I didn’t sit down to write all about it yet. πŸ™‚

So, this weekend kicked off on Friday afternoon with a quick trip to the Brooklyn Half pre-party, which was sponsored by New Balance. This year, the expo was down at Pier 2 in Brooklyn, with gorgeous views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge.

You may have seen this on Instagram on Saturday morning – this pretty much sums up how I felt after the race: πŸ™‚

Scenes from a weekend #28

I had barely showered after finishingΒ before we were heading to what is undoubtedly the new highlight of Roman’s young life: the Touch-A-Truck festival. I know, it sounds made up, but it was a very real event. It was a long street, blocked off, parked with just about every kind of truck imaginable. All of them were open and the kids could clamber over and into them, take turns “driving” and basically it was the most fun Roman could ever imagine crammed into a couple of hours. We met up with a little buddy of his and his mama and we spent most of our time chasing them and convincing them it wasn’t their turn quite yet just because they really really really wanted to drive rightnowrightnow.

The adventures in big boy bed continue – Roman woke us up Sunday morning, crying out that he was stuck. He had climbed out of bed and managed to get halfway under the crib. Work in progress, people. Work. In. Progress. πŸ˜‰

We also had some fun at a new playground nearby which is just for little kids, so they can basically rampage around without a worry. There’s also a cool round-about thing that you can spin tired daddies on.

I did someΒ elliptical cross training as recovery the day after the race. Caught up on a little House Hunters while I was at the gym. πŸ˜‰ I learned all about how many bedrooms and bathrooms and square feet you can get for $400,000 in Nashville, TN. (Hint: a lot more than Brooklyn!)

I can’t wait to share with you guys all about BROOKLYN! Tomorrow, I promise. πŸ™‚

How was your weekend?

What was your favorite thing at the playground when you were a kid? (Mine was theΒ rocketship, which was this metal rocket structure probably 15 feet high that you crawled into and climbed up to the top. Pretty sure they were all gone by the time I was about 12 – safety and all that).

Can you guess which truckΒ had the longest line at the Touch-A-Truck festival?Β

  1. Sounds like an incredible (and tiring!) weekend!! Can’t wait to read the race recap because I know you rocked the race!!
The truck festival sounds perfect for Roman! I’m guessing the fire truck was a big hit. (or maybe the garbage truck!)
I always loved merry-go-round when I was growing up – not so much now because they make me dizzy!

You got it! It was the garbage truck! Shaking with excitement and lines wrapping around it. πŸ™‚

I suggested it should be me on that thing, then Fran started talking about how early he got up with Roman to do cheering “duties”. It’s a hard life being a running widower I guess! πŸ˜‰ And yes, it did occur to me as we were traipsing to the truck festival that I had reverted into full on mama mode.

  2. Oh my gosh! What a great idea of little kids! My brother absolutely loved trucks when he was little. He was lucky because my Dad has been in the construction industry his whole life so my brother did get to ride on some trucks when he was little but without opportunities like this, most kids would miss out!

Ha, I was in Park Slope yesterday and we were talking about how expensive it is to live there! Definitely more than $400k!

Being outside this weekend was my highlight! Loved it!

How gorgeous was the weather this weekend? You guys were in our neck of the woods! It’s a great spot for having kiddos! πŸ˜‰

  3. The firetruck?
At our town this weekend it was called “Big Rig Day” and it sounds like this! Sadly, I missed it because we were in New Jersey. Des would have loved it for sure.
And I would have gotten motion sick on that spinning thing!
I’m always amazed at the housing prices in places that aren’t..NJ and San Francisco. Massachusetts seems a bit better but it’s been hard to say since we bought our house when the market was really down.

The firetruck was popular, but the garbage truck was the big draw. It was incredible. Lines on both sides (because it’s dual drive) and little boys more than willing to wait for the glory of driving the garbage truck.

Yup, Roman was almost shaking with excitement. πŸ™‚ It was pretty adorable.
