Scenes from a weekend #36

This weekend felt like it flew by…maybe why I’m posting my scenes from a weekend later today!

I got some great running done – when the weather turned hot I feel like I slowed down a lot, but the last few times I’ve run my pace is getting closer to where I think it should be. I’m also trying to be better about foam rolling and stretching in general, to try to kick off recovery right.

Roman felt like my quads and hips needed a little extra pressure.

We had lots of fun just hanging out this weekend. We took Roman to his first ever movie! He’s seen movies on TV – I swear ‘Frozen’ may have been played over 50 times – but never at the theater. He LOVED it! There was a little confusion with him asking, “Mama, what is going to happen next?” and me trying to explain we were all seeing it for the first time, but all in all, a very successful trip!

Also on our agenda was lots of outdoor time, as well as delicious, delicious frozen yogurt.

I did quite a bit of blogging planning this weekend. I feel like it’s time for a few little changes around here and I’m also working on a workout guide that would be offered free for my email subscribers. IΒ alsoΒ signed up for a free service called Peek. It’s kind of awesome – you create your account, enter your blog site or website address, then within a few hours, you get emailed a video of a random stranger assessing your blog live. And you can get it done for free three times a month!

It’s free because it’s so random – they hope you will sign up for the paid version, in which you can decide which demographic you want to test it out, or come up with your own specific tests for them to check.

It was really interesting to get instant feedback. My tester was an American male, I’m guessing in his 40s, who doesn’t read blogs. Watching him navigate around the site and see what tripped him up and what he was drawn to immediately was fascinating. If you’re a blogger, I can’t recommend it enough – it’s free! How can you go wrong? And even if you get someone who is clearly NOT your target audience, they could still have some interesting points on how your site looks, or if there’s something like navigation or layout that could use work.

Finally, I will leave you with some wildlife encounters this weekend! When we were at the playground on Saturday, a butterfly landed on a railing right next to me and it let me pat it. I am not kidding, I very, very gently stroked its wing for about 20 seconds. It was bizarre.

One of my running adventures had me running past a riding school class. I’ve ridden only on a handful of occasions and the horsesΒ tend to do things like decide to wade into a stream for a bit of a splash about rather than actually pay any attention to me as a rider. It’s clearly not my forte.

Also, we had a visit from one of Fran’s squirrel friends this weekend. He loves squirrels and sometimes puts peanut butter on our window sill for them. They’re usually in and out after grabbing some of the PB but every now and then they get over excited and jump on the screen. It FREAKS me out and we invariably have a long “conversation” <- euphemism for argument! about whether we really need to be feeding the bloody squirrels.

Can you ride horses? Do you find it’s a workout, if you do?

Favorite froyo topping? I had strawberries in balsamic vinegar – it was amazing.

Did you workout this weekend? What did you do?

  1. Yes, I used to show in horseback riding. I’d get sore after practice! It’s a workout!
My favorite froyo topping is rainbow sprinkles, because I’m five.
Scarlet went to a movie this weekend! It was her third or fourth – How to Train Your Dragon 2.

I’m afraid to do Peek! I’m so thin-skinned..

    1. I had a client once who used to do horseback riding and her plank times were ridiculous! It must be amazing for your posture.

You should try Peek! I don’t think they can be negative for the sake of being negative and you’d be surprised what they can pick up on that you never notice because you’re so used to looking at your blog.

  2. I’m not a big fan of riding horses – the last time I did I had a super slobbery horse and spit kept blowing/flinging back on me – yuck!!!
That Peek sounds intriguing – maybe after I get all the kinds fixed on my blog I will try it!!!

    1. Eeeeewwww! That sounds so gross. Peek was really interesting and yes, you should definitely try it.

    1. Yay for a week off work! πŸ™‚ Yeah, the squirrel is freaky, it kind of jumps and just hangs there for a few seconds.

    1. Yes, and it would be interesting to see if a random user on Peek would have the same notes as your survey results. It’s free, so you may as well!

  3. Ok so the Peek thing scares me a little bit!? I really want to do it but oh the pressure!!
Also, the squirrels??? OMG no! I was actually on a run this morning, going over a wooden bridge and this squirrel was running along the railing (almost right next to me!) and then jumped onto a nearby tree!!! WTH??? Of course, I immediately thought of you πŸ™‚

    1. Great, now squirrels are reminding people of me!! We are in a peanut butter embargo in our house. When they jump on the window, I put my foot down. It was kind of scary when I first hit ‘play’ but it’s so objective and they are not nasty or anything.

  4. We haven’t tried taking our kids to the movie theater yet. We talk about it but my kids are pretty sensitive about ‘scary’ parts on the t.v. so I’m waiting for the perfect movie to come out. Finding Dori maybe? I don’t know… It sounds like you had a fabulous weekend full of fun!
