Scenes from a weekend #43

I did have a weekend…it’s just taken me a little longer than usual to write my post!

This is how I kicked off the weekend:

Scenes from a weekend #43

I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a pedicure. I’m actually guessing it was last year. Purely because I am so embarrassed of my runner feet! Weird callouses, lots of rough spots, the odd black toenail (although I’m all clear on that front at the moment). But it was a long week – Fran was away the entire week in Las Vegas for work – so I decided I needed to treat myself a little.

Also, just in case you missed it, I was the Friday’s Featured Female on Melissa’s blog, The Valentine RD last Friday! I shared my a-ha moment when I decided to quit my job & become a personal trainer. I was so honored when MelissaΒ asked if Β I would be a part of the series. There are some seriously kick-ass women who’ve been featured in the past.

We had some VERY exciting visitors this weekend! Roman’s very first babysitter, Lishy, who took care of him from when he was 3 months old, until she broke my heart & moved to Montana for grad school last summer πŸ˜‰ was back in town with her girlfriend Emma (who would step in for Lishy if she was ever ill or unable to sit). They came over to hang out and to see how enormous the little monkey has grown!

It was SO good to see them! They’re such a special part of Roman’s babyhood and I count them as dear friends now, or I guess more like family. πŸ™‚

Roman painting a picture for them to take back to Montana. Fitting, since Emma is an artist.

We went to a friend’s place for dinner on Saturday night and I was a terrible blogger and didn’t take any photos. πŸ™‚ Oops! Our friends cooked an incredible mealΒ for us – kale salad with pecans, goat cheese & dried cherries (it was the bomb), and a mushroom stroganoff dish that was amazing. Roman had fun hanging out with their son, who is a few years older, but was in seventh heaven when his buddy showed him all the toys he’d set aside for Roman to play with. He’s still talking about the trains.

On Sunday, I went to a spin class with my friend Maggie, then met the boys for some playground adventures, followed by hanging out at our block party!

It was a lot of fun, especially for all the kids. Part of the fun for them, I think, is just being allowed to play in the closed-off street! There was a DJ, a hula hoop contest, lots of cooking out, games and toys all over the place. Block parties in Brooklyn are so much fun.

And since this recap was a little delayed, I can include that today I got an email from Fitness Magazine to invite me to their fitness blogger event. Woo Hoo!!Β I went last year and it was great – I’m so excited to see some of my blogging friends and meet some in real life!

What did you do this weekend?

Any bloggers also going to FitBlogNYC?

Runners – do you feel the same way as me about getting pedicures?

    1. Possibly the BEST way to start a weekend. πŸ™‚ It may have to become a more regular occurrence for me.

  1. YES to pedicures! I’m always trying to fit them in my schedule, but you know how that goes…
I love the picture of Roman just slamming that broom into the water. That is SO what my boys would be doing too. Gotta love that. As for the Fitness event, I’m hopeful that there will be a round 2, since I got nada in my inbox. Boooo!

  2. YES! I definitely always apologize to the people doing my feet, although they always say its no problem….but I am sure they are thinking, ugh! I like it when they “go hard” at them though to get all those callouses off! Love that picture of Roman, that is so adorable that he made a masterpiece for the artists πŸ™‚

    1. I tell them “As short as you can do it without actually drawing blood” and they’re still longer than I would wear them (hands and feet).

    1. These babysitters will be a part of our life forever, but they just live too far away right now! Definitely it was heartbreaking when we had to say goodbye the first time.
