Running and Rolling: Moji Foot Review and Giveaway

Ahh, runner’s feet! Is there anything more beautiful to look upon and delightful to the touch than black toenails, thick callouses, blisters and crazy running shoe tan lines? Okay, so usually you don’t have all those things at the same time, but it’s definitely my feet that are affected first whenever I increase mileage or train harder. So I was intrigued when Moji reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in trying their products and doing aΒ Moji FootΒ review. What’s the Moji Foot? It’s a little self massager for your feet; a circular contraption with rolling spheres that you roll your foot over.

I’ve been kind of skeptical that there’s any real way of rolling out my feet. Using aΒ tennis ball hasn’t worked for me in the past – it’s just a little too big and squishy to really make any difference to how my arches or the balls of my feet feel after a long run. But in addition to sending me a Moji Foot to try, the company was also offering one for one of you guys to win, so I thought, why not?

Turns out, I love it.

It sat in its packaging for a week or so, until Roman lost interest in it and then I knew I could leave it out without fear of it becoming a necessary part of whatever may be his latest emergency headquarters set-up in the apartment. NowΒ it sits right in front of the couch and whenever I nurse Tanner, I have a foot on it, either rolling it around, or holding it on one tender spot, similar to how you would foam roll your legs. If I want a deeper massage, I either just press my foot firmer on the spheres, or I use my other foot as a weight to help press it down. We have carpet and it’s never slipped around, no matter how much weight I press into it.

If you know me, you know I love the movie Die Hard. I would definitely take this on a plane to use while in the air and to help recover from sore feet and swelling after flying. It’s very lightweight and portable and the bonus of this version is that it’s made of high-tech engineered plastic, which means you can throw it in your carry-on without any TSA issue. (“Fists with ya toes!”)

Even though I had to take a break from running recently, I do a lot of walking everywhere, for work, as well as with the boys. Nine times out of ten, I wear Baby T in a Bjorn, so I can be hands-free. Given that he is almost as heavy as Roman was at a year (he’s three ounces short of 20 pounds!), but at four months old is still very much a baby without perfect head control, it can be tough on my back, legs and feet after a while. I really feel like this has made a difference for me, to basically have a foot massage available whenever I want.

Here’s a video explaining how and why it works so well – check it out, then enter the giveaway via Rafflecopter below!

If you’re not the lucky winner, I’d still recommend trying this product out. In addition to the Moji Foot, the company also makes a Moji Foot Pro, which has metalΒ spheres, so it can be kept in the freezer for double use – ice and massage all in one. Moji was also kind enough to send me a Moji Curve PRO, which is a handheld roller also featuringΒ rotating metal spheres. It’s meant for bigger muscles like hamstrings, calves and glutes, but I actually use it a lot on my shoulders and back, because the curve of it works really well for that area (for which I’ve never succeeded in finding the best way of rolling with a foam roller).

What’s your favorite rolling device?

Has anyone tried the tennis ball technique and liked it?Β

(PS: I’m linking up with Smitha and Erica on their giveaway round up, so check them out for a bunch of other giveaways to enter!)

  1. First off, I’m cracking up that you love Die Hard! πŸ™‚ I would love to have a foot massager like this. Though like you, I have a feeling that Reese would think it was her toy. Everything is “It’s mines.” No joke, I hear this all day long!

P.S. I ordered a foam roller this week & can’t wait to try it out!

    1. My love for Die Hard runs DEEP. I can quote it almost verbatim. ha ha ha ha!! And yes, it’s so funny how we have to fight to keep some things ‘ours’ and not have them commandeered by the littles. Sigh. And that’s excellent news about the foam roller – it’s so awesome to have one at home! Just be careful because Reese WILL climb on you while you’re rolling and it WILL hurt like crazy!!

    1. Yes! Great point on the racecation! I really like this one, I’d buy it myself if it hadn’t been given to me.

    1. Good luck on the giveaway! If you’re already rolling out with a ball you would love this roller!!

    1. It’s a sad indictment on my fit mama wardrobe that I didn’t even think to mention high heels in this review! But you’re totally right, massage is key after wearing unsupportive shoes.

    1. OMG another reason we’re friends. Die Hard is AMAZING. Check out Lacey’s comment – she mentioned this would be awesome for a racecation, like the one you’re taking where you GET TO MEET DEENA KASTOR!

  2. I’ve never had a pedicure and probably won’t be scheduling one anytime in the near future but do deal with foot injuries somewhat often. It’s gotten better the past year because of my intense focus on stretching, self massage and icing when needed.

    1. Good luck with the giveaway! It’s so important not to neglect the feet for injury prevention, right?

      1. So true. I’ve found that keeping the calf muscles well stretched has cured my plantar fasciitis. I still have bouts of foot pain but mostly as a result of speed work.

  3. I wanted one of these horribly when I developed pf a couple years ago. I used the frozen golf ball trick – tennis ball is too big in my opinion. I also have a foot roller that my husband gifted me for Christmas. Funny how that is now what I would consider a thoughtful and romantic gift. πŸ™‚

    1. I would definitely file that under thoughtful and romantic! My husband is a non runner so if he goes to the trouble of finding out what running stuff to get me, I think it’s the sweetest gesture! Good luck in the giveaway – this one is great!

  4. I totally get pedicures for the foot massage! I would love to get this amazing massager so I don’t have to go as often!!

  5. I’ve actually never gotten a pedi just for the foot massage… have only had a few pedicures ever. But, I see a sports massage therapist once a month for an all over massage, including feet. This would be a fun thing to win too!

    1. Sports massages are no joke! I got them a few times the first time I trained for a marathon and they’re so helpful but I always felt like I’d been hit by a truck the day after one! Good luck in the giveaway. πŸ™‚

    1. Right?? I rarely get them because I’m always self conscious about my runners’ feet, so when I do, if the massage isn’t good I am a sad bunny.

  6. No I’ve never gotten a pedicure or had a foot massage and it sounds delightful! Would love to try this!

    1. Good luck Georgia! This is such a great thing to have whenever you’re sitting for a while and I’ve noticed a big difference in how my feet feel!

    1. Nikki I wish those worked for me but I find the tennis balls so squishy, it’s like they don’t do enough! This gets into the arch a little more, I love it.

    1. You should get one for real Nellie! I’m addicted to it now and I’m already planning on having it in the car when we make the big drive north!!

  7. I love getting pedicures, especially for the foot massage, but I’m super ticklish so I always get laughed at by the nail technicians for giggling and swirming when it tickles haha

  8. I’ve used a frozen water bottle to roll my feet before. I’m Stuy ashamed of how my runners feet look I won’t even get a pedicure. I just keep them hidden.

  9. I totally get pedicures simply for the massage!!!! We have something like this in our house and we love it. Do you notice that you get a deeper sleep on nights you use it? That tends to happen in our house. When we need a good night’s rest well use it for that reason too, lol.

  12. I am very satisfied with this product not only does it feel fabulous on your feet after a long day, but its perfect to hold in your hand a give a great iced massage on your neck and shoulders. My muscles felt very relaxed and tingly after using the massager. We keep this at our feet under our home computer.

  13. I’m excited with your article. As Christmas is fast approaching, I was in search of affording a gift for my mother. I thought of getting a useful gift for her. I thought to give her foot massager, but unaware of the best one. But, when I read your article, I found that Moji Foot roller is the one that suits her needs. I am going to afford one soon and present it before Christmas. Thanks, dude….
