My 5 fave stretches and 3 tips for toning your whole body!

I canโ€™t believe itโ€™s already week 3 of the #BosuStrong challenge, time flies when ย youโ€™re having fun! Last week we focused on balance and I was proud of myself for backing off and letting my body rest when I got sick – balance is about knowing when to push and knowing when to recover. This week itโ€™s all about stretching and toning – so make sure you join in on the fun!

Since weโ€™re talking about stretching here are 5 of my all time favorite stretches:

  • I love to stretch my legs by doing downward facing dog.
  • My favorite total body stretch isย foam rolling.
  • I swear when I do yoga, it feels like I’m the most inflexible person in the world. <– it’s a work in progress! ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • I stretch my mind by reading as much as I can.
  • I try to stretch out of my comfort zone by trying new workouts.

And if youโ€™re looking for a great way to tone your muscles, here are my fave 3 tips (tricks, advice, words of wisdom, etc):

  1. Healthy muscles aren’t just about getting strong and lean. Keeping your muscles working well means breaking up the fascia (the connective tissueย that surroundsย your muscles). You can do this through self myofascial release (foam rolling, self massage) or through getting a sports massage.
  2. ย Rest! Yes, rest. When you’re strength training, your muscles are getting broken down by tiny micro-tears caused by the strain of lifting heavy weights. When you stop working, your body starts the repair process to fix those micro tears, which is what makes you stronger. Sufficient sleep and rest days are important parts of the process.
  3. How you eat and drink will impact your muscles’ strength and ability, too. Make sure you’re eating a healthy diet and drinking enough water in order to keep your system working well. The way you eat complements your workouts, for total body fitness.
