Tomorrow is Promised to No One. On loss, on living for today, on cultivating a sense of gratitude for the gifts we have.

Tomorrow is Promised to No One

A few days ago, a blogging friend lost her young daughter. It came out of nowhere. When I read the news, it felt like someone had punched me in the gut at how terribly unfair and awful life can be, suddenly.

Every Sunday, my friend would put up an Instagram post of three things for which she was grateful, as a way of beginning the week with a feeling of thankfulness, peace and gratitude.

All weekend, I have been thinking about what the family is going through. It’s horrifying to think of your child being taken away and it breaks my heart that anyone has to go through that misery.

Tomorrow is Promised to No One. On loss, on living for today, on cultivating a sense of gratitude for the gifts we have.

Tomorrow is promised to no one. It’s never more important that right now to look around and recognize there is so much beauty and love and positivity in your life. If you’re having a bad day, week, month, year; if you’re going through a trauma; if all that seems to surround you is dark – that’s when it’s most important to find what you’re grateful for right now.

I am grateful for my family.

I am grateful that I have so much love in my life and so many people I love and care for.

I am grateful for all of our good health.

And really, it always comes down to that, doesn’t it? Our people, our relationships and the good health to enjoy them.

Think about the people you love this week and please send some positive thoughts and love to our friend who is suffering.

  1. Oh my gosh. I can’t even imagine what your friend is going through. I’m so very sorry! I will think of her this week. You are so right that tomorrow is promised to no one. I can’t even watch a movie or read a book where a child dies so I can’t even begin to fathom this in real life.

    1. Once you have kids, those storylines are just impossible to get through without thinking about it with your own kids, aren’t they?

    1. I’m happy the tribe has rallied around her, but I’m sure nothing really helps. It’s so heartbreaking.

  2. My mind just cannot even go there. This is the second time I’m hearing of a sudden child loss this week! I’m so sorry for you and her and her entire family. Ever since my mother died I’m always so, so grateful for my remaining family and my health – nothing else really matters. Thank you for the reminder.

    1. It’s so true – it’s easy to get caught up in all the day-to-day stuff, then you hear about something like this and suddenly everything is put into perspective.
