High Five Friday – Birthday Edition

Happy, Happy High Five Friday! I’m very excited about the weekend because it’s my birthday tomorrow! I’m planning on a run and yoga and cake and watching the NY Rangers game. #thisis38

Perfect timing for a little high five for Friday and the good stuff that happened this week. I’m linking up with Angela again for her High Five Friday series. Let’s start with Instagram – my five favorite photos from the week. Come follow me on IG here! πŸ™‚

High Five Friday - Birthday Edition. Sharing 5 good things about the week. Positivity and happiness can be contagious - let’s spread the joy by sharing what’s going right in our life!

10 months! I can’t believe it. Baby T is just over 28 pounds now. His new favorite thing to do is maneuver himself under the couch. If you pop him down on the floor, it takes him less than a minute to get himself under there.

This 12 mile long run yesterday was not good. But runs that are no fun always make me think there’s a really amazing run in my future. Plus, there are now 12 quality miles under my belt for a long run. 3 weeks of marathon training down now and I’m happy next week is a little bit of a cut back week in training.

I got a new pair of thermal tights from Spandits and I’m in love! They’re so 70’s-tastic, aren’t they? I’m digging that I can matchy-match it up in aqua or purple, too.

And in case you missed my post on Wednesday, I am super psyched to be part of a group of 6 running bloggers bringing you a workout round-up every month! This month’s theme for the workouts was indoor sweat sessions, so next time you’re looking for something to get done in your living room, you’re all set!

FIVE LINKS I LOVED

I read this post from Heather of Relentless Forward Commotion and immediately wanted to hit the trails! Loved every moment of reading this, especially the intermission in the middle of the post where she just had pictures of her friends’ gorgeous trail runs.

The Science of Happiness: Why complaining is literally killing you, via Curious Apes. If this doesn’t transform the way you speak and think and phrase your words, it will definitely make you more cognizant of how you express yourself (and how those around you do, too).

Need a running community? Read Amanda’s post on finding your community online to strengthen running bonds. I’ve forged many strong friendships through the running community online. πŸ™‚

Laura wrote about metabolic efficiency for runners – this is fascinating! I’m hoping she expands this into a webinar.

How Technology Makes It Easy to Flake Out (and How to Stop It), via Tiny Buddha. Does the immediacy of technology make it easier to commit to things without thinking, or make it easier to cancel at the last minute? Both. Here’s how to be more mindful about it.

FIVE AWESOME THINGS

24 times J.K. Rowling was a total badass on Twitter. I. LOVE. HER.

Alyssa Milano sticking up for breastfeeding normalization on the Wendy Williams show – YES! Seriously, this should be a non-issue. Here’s why Wendy thinks Alyssa should stop with the madness of feeding her child in public: “[Breasts are] more sexual than a feeding thing.” Are you kidding me?

BGB Community launched a website! This is a fabulous, supportive group of bloggers with an amazingly helpful Facebook group, so it’s exciting to see it expand online.

The Under Armour USA Gymnastics team commercial – just wow:

Turns out my Downton Abbey habit makes me way literary. Phew.

I’m linking up over at Happy Fit Mama for her weekly High Five Friday series. Head over there to read more posts like this – fun photos and good reads for your weekend.

  1. That breastfeeding video was so uncomfortable…uncomfortable watching Wendy, that is. I still can’t believe that it is 2016 and breastfeeding is so “taboo” to so many! GO ALYSSA for raising awareness!

Thanks for sharing my trail running post! πŸ™‚ Have a great weekend!

    1. Loved your post, Heather and I was so excited to see you shared trail running beginner tops, too! I will be pinning and tweeting that one this week, too. You inspired me, I had an easy 3 mile recovery run planned for my birthday, so I took it to the trails! πŸ™‚

And I know what you mean, I kind of wanted to watch Wendy through my hands over my eyes in horror for her. How could anyone actually think that way??

  2. Happy Happy HAPPY BIRTHDAY Carly!!!!!! Awesome about your run! 12 miles (good or bad run) is still 12 miles!! This is what i have in stock for this weekend for myself! Have an amazing day!!! Also baby T looks sooo cute in this photo! He is such a sweet squeeze πŸ™‚ !!

      1. Lol. Coolio!!! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹. This 🐒🐒🐒 keeps on trekking. I did a 5k on one hour of sleep yesterday. I am paying for it today. G’nite. πŸ˜²πŸ˜΄πŸ˜΅πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

  4. Happy Birthday Carly! I’ll be hitting the big 3-8 in a few weeks. I’m sure I’ll have very similar plans. Hahaha! And that gymnastics video. Wow! When I saw it I had to bookmark it for my daughter to see. What amazing athletes! Thanks for linking up to High 5 Friday!

    1. 38 – we go hard!!! Ha ha ha. It was a great day. I went to yoga and out for a run. Fran said, “you do for fun what other people feel like is a form of punishment.” He is NOT a runner!! πŸ˜‚

    1. Ugh. Wendy is so ridiculous. I thought maybe she was just being willfully behind-the-times and offensive for the publicity. Although that would be just as bad, talk about doing your part to set feminism back 50 years. So yes, yay for UA inspiring videos of kickass athletic women!!

    1. I adored 36! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the bday wishes, it was a fabulous day. J.K. Rowling is so good on Twitter – I remember seeing her tweet about Serena Williams and immediately I followed her. The printer tweets had me crying laughing, too.
