High Five Friday – It’s the Little Things

A big high five this Friday for a lot of simple joys from the week. It’s the little things that can really make you happy, right? A glass of wine in the evening, a happy dance when you’re feeling good, a gorgeous day for a run, stories of ordinary people kicking butt and taking names. My whole week was filled with small, wonderful moments. Time to share all the good from the week for the High Five Friday link up with Angela!

Hello long run. 10 miles for the long run this week and it felt fantastic. It was cold, but not ridiculous. Most importantly, it was just a stellar, blue sky, sunny, perfect winter day. I ran along the lakefront and it was so beautiful. I found this sweet little beach with a playground just off the shore which I plan on revisiting in summer with the boys. It was just a wonderful run.

Breakfast, baby. Before I did the Runner’s Reset with Laura, my stand-by breakfast was peanut butter toast. On a non-running day, this is my new go-to: a small scoop of granola, whole milk plain Greek yogurt, unsweetened coconut flakes, chia seeds and frozen berries heated up and drizzled like a sauce. It’s delicious and so filling!

Momentum Jewelry nailed it with this amazing #sharetheSPARK campaign it launched on Valentine’s Day! All the Momentum ambassadors received these brand new Motivate Wrap designs, designed to motivate…others. πŸ™‚ Our mission between now and April 14th is to share these wraps with people who may need a little extra inspiration – complete strangers, friends, co-workers, gym buddies, whomever! I have two ready to be mailed to two amazing friends and I’m hanging on to the other two until I find the right recipients. (Also, you can buy them for only $10 on the Momentum Jewelry site until the end of the campaign!)

I’m in love with this photo of me and Baby T doing the Baby Strong Workout. I made it my profile pic on Facebook and I’m even considering…wait for it… PRINTING IT. I know. Crazy talk. I don’t even remember the last time I printed photos.

Yesterday was National Drink Wine Day. These are the kinds of holidays I wish I had more advance notice of. Luckily I had Local Drink Wine Night last Friday. Tonight might be Living Room Drink Beer Evening. It’s all about balance, people.

FIVE LINKS I LOVED

Read this account of Allie’s dad’s escape from Cuba and tell me you’re not inspired: What My Father’s Escape From Cuba Taught Me About Being an Athlete. Think of it next time you need to dig deep in a race.

What do you think of plus-sized model Ashley Graham on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition? Here’s Nellie’s take: Size 16 Model Ashley Graham Stuns on Cover of Sports Illustrated.

Katie unfollowed EVERYONE on Twitter. She wiped the slate clean and started over and is loving Twitter all over again: Why I Unfollowed You. I have to say, I think about going through all the people I follow on Instagram and Twitter and culling them, but I get so worried I will hurt someone’s feelings. I totally understand the reasoning behind Katie doing this!

This is how a smart, professional athlete makes decisions about her racing schedule: Burning the Candle: Warning Signs. Tina felt burned out (in a sort of good way, she had just had a lot of fun personal engagements and travel back to back) and she made a big decision based on listening to her body. Such a good read.

Christine nailed it in this Women’s Running article, How Social Media Killed My Run. How does the culture of social media sharing affect your run while you’re in the middle of it? I’ve definitely experienced two scenarios Christine discusses in this article. On a positive note, I have also been able to push myself through a tough running workout on more than one occasion because I knew I’d be blogging about it.

FIVE SOCIAL MEDIA SHARES

These are some things I came across on the soc meeds that made me smile, made me think, or made me emotional.

Paria ran her first marathon in LA on Sunday. When this photo popped up on my feed it made my heart happy! You can read her marathon race recap here – I’ve described her writing before as poetry for runners – even if you don’t usually like reading race recaps (there’s a rumor people like you are out there, I personally LOVE reading them!) you’ll enjoy reading this.

You need to read this whole story – you can click on the photo above or just click here, but what an awesome story of just having one of those moments when you say exactly the right thing at the right time. Never underestimate yourself!

Words I never thought I’d write on a fitness blog: You will want to watch this 10 minute short film starring Pamela Anderson. It’s thought-provoking and creepy. I saw it on Facebook but when I went to share it here, I couldn’t remember who had posted it. So I googled “Pamela Anderson short film” and you can imagine what came up…oops! Then I added “creepy” to the end of that search phrase and every hit was for this film. That’s how creepy it is.

Fact: I dance like this in my kitchen to entertain my kids. Shit gets real at 3:10 – another never give up moment.

You looked at that photo and now you want to go run, don’t you? This is one of my very favorite Instagram running accounts. All her photos are sublime.

  1. It makes me sad that we dont print photos anymore… I used to love having them printed and in an album with memorabilia and descriptions πŸ™‚ I printed (and framed) one just yesterday, after a veeeery long time, as a gift for my MIL and she loved it. Happy Friday!

    1. I know, I have lots of albums from years ago but once we all went digital I just stopped. There’s something about flipping though an actual album, though, I should make it a project.

    1. I loved following along during your training and tracking you through the race! Your photo from the end just gave me goosebumps – such an amazing experience to finish a marathon, I was so excited to ‘see’ you do it.

  2. Ok, now I need to Google Pam Anderson video just to see what you got in your search. Kidding…kinda. I’ve seen the one with Tommy Lee. WHoa. Anyway, I saw the video and it was very creepy and real. Which is quite sad. Thanks for the Insta suggestion. I don’t think I’m follow her. And yes now I want to run! Thanks for linking up to High 5 Friday!

  3. Hahaha. I laughed out loud at the Pamela Anderson shirt film search results!

I’m really touched that you found my post relevant and enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing it here too. That’s so awesome!

    Love ya babe xxx

    1. I usually follow back anyone who seems to be legit, but like Katie I’ve ended up with a lot of people I’m following and I’d love to streamline down to see more of the posts from people I love interacting with! I totally agree on IG followers – you have to check their feed with a fine tooth comb to make sure they’re not one of those wrap sellers, ugh.
