Scenes from a weekend #29

Scenes from a weekend #29

How was your Memorial Day weekend? After a long, cool Spring, I finally feel like Summer arrived full-force this weekend. We were upstate for Fran’s cousin’s 50th birthday and it was a lovely getaway.

And let’s face it, no scenes from a weekend post is complete these days without some sort of Roman + truck photo, so let’s just get that out of the way:

He spent a lot of time “driving” that cop car over the weekend. In fact, any car anyone wanted to open the door for him, Roman was not shy about hopping in and having a go.

We did a lot of relaxing:

We took a drive to Saugerties for lunch and a wander about the town.

I know Saugerties is near Woodstock, NY, but is this really what we all thought it was?? (Gardeners, feel free to weigh in, here!):

We found our way to a store full of handmade chocolate – our cousin told us to take a deep breath in when we walked through the doors and it was pretty magical. Roman found a truck chocolate – natch.

Roman is finally over his fear of dogs, thanks to sweet Lucy, who he thought was wonderful. (He’s still wary of the German Shepard police dog from the first photo, but he started warming up to him as well).

Supermarkets outside of Brooklyn continue to be a photo opportunity for us, since we just don’t have anything like this near us. This is not the first time we’ve taken photos in the grocery store. Also, check out the hamburger cakes. I was simultaneously impressed and horrified. Horrified won out.

On our way to the big birthday celebration, Roman napped, hard. We parked it in the driveway and happy hour came to Mama while I waited for him to wake from his slumber.

In other news, I succumbed to the cold I suspected I was coming down with, so no running for me this weekend. I’ve felt pretty ordinary for the past few days, but I think I’m more or less over it now. I’m planning on running tomorrow. This Sunday is the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in Vermont, so this will be a little experiment of how a full week off running and being sick affects you between PR attempts. Stay tuned…

Do you keep running if you’re ill?

Did you go to any parties/barbeques/weddings this weekend?

What do you think of the hamburger cakes?

Seriously – is that weed growing in that yard??

Yes, that’s a police dog! He’s actually retired now, so he’s enjoying being a family pet now that our cousin has a new canine partner. Roman is still talking about the police car a week later. ๐Ÿ™‚

It was so funny! I’m not sure if it was or not, but we all did a little double take.
