The Run Report - a contest and a virtual race

I’m a little late to the party, but I just found out about this contest being sponsored by Runner’s World and BelVita with AMAZING prizes. Sadly, the first part of the contest with a prize of entry to your dream race is over, but there are three more prizes up for grabs: a GoPro camera, a $150 gift certificate to a running retailer, and a Garmin GPS watch. (You know I want that new Garmin!) Guess what you have to do to enter? Go for a morning run, take a photo and share it on Instagram or Twitter with the relevant hashtags for each contest section. Isn’t that what we all do anyway?? πŸ˜‰ You do have to be following Runner’s World on whichever platform you’re entering – so if you’re instagramming, make sure you follow RW on Instagram before you upload! Check out the contest website for more details.

I also want to share with you aΒ virtual raceΒ being run in September, which I heard about through SweatPink and checked out today. This one will appeal more the the ladies – Skirt Sports, which makes, you guessed it, running skirts, is celebrating their 10th anniversary with a virtual 10K. At first glance, the entry fees (there are three levels) seem pricey. But check out what you get as part of the entry:
Skirt Sports Virtual 10KIf you’d spend money on running gear anyway (they also have shorts, capris, tanks, etc), this is a great deal. Plus, every finisher gets to pick one of three different pieces to receive free as their finisher swag – two different styles of skirt, or a t-shirt. It’s a really good deal, I am thinking about running it! Who’s in? You can check out the details and register here.

(By the way, none of those links are affiliate links – these are just opportunities I wanted to share!)

In case you missed it, I took advantage of the very last day of Summer Streets in NYC last Saturday! It was a great experience – I took my long run over the Brooklyn Bridge, then up to Union Square for an out-and-back, all on streets closed to traffic for the morning so that runners, walkers and cyclists could enjoy the city streets without stopping every 20 seconds or having to worry about cars.

And look! I took a photo on my morning run! If only I had known about the Runner’s World contest a week earlier!

Do you take more selfies or views when you take pictures on the run?

Running skirts? Or shorts? I own one running skirt and have only worn it a few times.

  1. I saw the virtual race invite yesterday! It seems like a pretty good deal considering you get clothes out of it. I wish they were Lululemon though;)

Ok, seriously, next time I’m in NYC we gotta run together! How fun would that be? We’re heading to Boston in September and Kenny has mentioned NYC, but I think it’d be kind of crazy taking a little 8 month old around:)

    1. Me too. I would have chosen Paris marathon!! You could have notched off another one of the majors!

    1. Oh it definitely helped others! It’s always good to be reminded that you’re not isolated when you’re having a confidence crisis – that the most accomplished runners (that’s you!) do, too.

    1. My selfies are usually thrown in because I get sick of the feet picture as a running shot! πŸ˜‰

    1. You’re welcome! πŸ™‚ I feel the same way about photos of views, especially when I’m trying to capture stunning light…with my phone!!

    1. No worries, Lacey! It does sound like a good deal when you consider what you get with entry.

  2. Oh – some great links – I will have to head back over this weekend to check out the ones I don’t already follow.
I like running skirts – I tend to wear them when I’m not working out but want to wear workout gear!!!

    1. I’ve never thought about wearing them while not running – that’s a really good idea!!

    1. Oh man! I knew about the bike accident but didn’t realize it was photography-related. Ouch!!! I’ve never considered a go pro, but I love the idea of it!

    1. Ha ha ha, yes, definitely the same lists! Next August, three Saturdays – be there or be square! (Although I hope to see you in NYC before then!!)

    1. Yup, I definitely thought of you on the bridge!! I’ll have to check out the pug run recap, I LOVE pugs! If we didn’t have cats, that’s one of the dogs I’d want to get and I would name him Pugsley McDougal. (Thought has gone into this!!)
