I’m a little late to the party, but I just found out about this contest being sponsored by Runner’s World and BelVita with AMAZING prizes. Sadly, the first part of the contest with a prize of entry to your dream race is over, but there are three more prizes up for grabs: a GoPro camera, a $150 gift certificate to a running retailer, and a Garmin GPS watch. (You know I want that new Garmin!) Guess what you have to do to enter? Go for a morning run, take a photo and share it on Instagram or Twitter with the relevant hashtags for each contest section. Isn’t that what we all do anyway?? π You do have to be following Runner’s World on whichever platform you’re entering – so if you’re instagramming, make sure you follow RW on Instagram before you upload! Check out the contest website for more details.
I also want to share with you aΒ virtual raceΒ being run in September, which I heard about through SweatPink and checked out today. This one will appeal more the the ladies – Skirt Sports, which makes, you guessed it, running skirts, is celebrating their 10th anniversary with a virtual 10K. At first glance, the entry fees (there are three levels) seem pricey. But check out what you get as part of the entry:
If you’d spend money on running gear anyway (they also have shorts, capris, tanks, etc), this is a great deal. Plus, every finisher gets to pick one of three different pieces to receive free as their finisher swag – two different styles of skirt, or a t-shirt. It’s a really good deal, I am thinking about running it! Who’s in? You can check out the details and register here.
(By the way, none of those links are affiliate links – these are just opportunities I wanted to share!)
In case you missed it, I took advantage of the very last day of Summer Streets in NYC last Saturday! It was a great experience – I took my long run over the Brooklyn Bridge, then up to Union Square for an out-and-back, all on streets closed to traffic for the morning so that runners, walkers and cyclists could enjoy the city streets without stopping every 20 seconds or having to worry about cars.

Do you take more selfies or views when you take pictures on the run?
Running skirts? Or shorts? I own one running skirt and have only worn it a few times.
I saw the virtual race invite yesterday! It seems like a pretty good deal considering you get clothes out of it. I wish they were Lululemon though;)
Ok, seriously, next time I’m in NYC we gotta run together! How fun would that be? We’re heading to Boston in September and Kenny has mentioned NYC, but I think it’d be kind of crazy taking a little 8 month old around:)

Yes yes yes to running! If you come in Sept you have to let me know!
The skirt race sounds cool! Except I’m not a Skirt Sports kind of girl.
Just heard about the BelVita thing too. Sorry to miss the firs part.

Me too. I would have chosen Paris marathon!! You could have notched off another one of the majors!
That is a pretty cool contest, hope you win! Thanks for featuring my post, I am so glad I wrote it now, and I think it helped others too. Is great to reflect on when you are about to race.

Oh it definitely helped others! It’s always good to be reminded that you’re not isolated when you’re having a confidence crisis – that the most accomplished runners (that’s you!) do, too.
I’ve never done a virtual race before… But I might for the chance of a new garmin! I definitely take more views than selfies when running… My selfies always look crazy! I can’t wait to check out those posts you listed. Have a great day!!

My selfies are usually thrown in because I get sick of the feet picture as a running shot! π
Thanks for the link love shout out! π I do a mixture of both selfies and views from my run. But then I get discouraged that my amazing view doesn’t look as good in the photo as it did in real life. π

You’re welcome! π I feel the same way about photos of views, especially when I’m trying to capture stunning light…with my phone!!
We just found out about the belvita contest as well. I will have to look into that virtual race. Even though it is pricey you do get more than just a medal for finishing it. It may be worth it. Thanks for the info.

No worries, Lacey! It does sound like a good deal when you consider what you get with entry.
Good luck with the contest! Thanks so much for sharing my post about working your edge. I can’t wait to dig into some of the other posts you shared too, as many of them look awesome. Happy running! xoxo

You’re welcome Jesica and happy running right back atcha lady!
Oh – some great links – I will have to head back over this weekend to check out the ones I don’t already follow.
I like running skirts – I tend to wear them when I’m not working out but want to wear workout gear!!!

I’ve never thought about wearing them while not running – that’s a really good idea!!
I used to take selfies AND views when I would cycle but it ended with a fractured elbow…. I don’t take photos anymore! π
Um a GoPro!? What an amazing prize! I got one for Xmas and I love it!!!

Oh man! I knew about the bike accident but didn’t realize it was photography-related. Ouch!!! I’ve never considered a go pro, but I love the idea of it!
Ok I just heard about both of those so we must be on the same email lists!!! Thanks so much for The Rundown love!! xoxoxo
And the closed city streets? I need to be alerted of this so I can come and get my run on!!! That is far too cool.
Allie recently posted…What It Takes to Ride 100 Miles…On A Tandem Bike!
Ha ha ha, yes, definitely the same lists! Next August, three Saturdays – be there or be square! (Although I hope to see you in NYC before then!!)
Good luck with the contest and oh so jealous about Summer Streets. It makes me miss NYC sooooo much!
A great running link I found is Shannyn@FrugalBeautiful’s Virtual Pub Run 5K/10K/1M: http://frugalbeautiful.com/blog/virtual-pug-run-5k10k-1-miler/ My pug is my first baby and there never would have been a human child without him so…
Melissa Burton recently posted…IDEAWorld BlogFest Recap
Yup, I definitely thought of you on the bridge!! I’ll have to check out the pug run recap, I LOVE pugs! If we didn’t have cats, that’s one of the dogs I’d want to get and I would name him Pugsley McDougal. (Thought has gone into this!!)
I take more pictures of views because I love in the Pacific NW and the landscape is always putting on a show!
Running skirts – nice idea in theory, but I always feel too precious when I wear them. Lately I’ve been leaning towards obnoxiously colored shorts.

Skirt Sports is an amazing company with equally amazing clothes. And that’s so awesome the streets were closed down. My small town brain can’t fathom stopping for lights!
