Happy Thoughts (High Five Friday)

I haven’t been this happy to see Friday roll around in a long time. This week has been, in no uncertain terms, crappy. If you haven’t noticed already, I am generally a very optimistic, always-look-on-the-bright-side kind of person. So when I have a particularly bad week and I can’t seem to turn it around, I start to freak out that there’s something horribly wrong with me and I’m going to slip into depression and never recover. I’m actually pretty sure the weekend will cure me, but I still needed to think happy thoughts with this post of five good things from my week to remind me life is awesome.

Luckily, Angela hosts a High Five Friday link up every week, giving me the perfect outlet to end the week strong and on a positive note. Gratitude and finding something to be happy about can make your whole outlook more positive – seriously, you should try it.

When I’m putting Roman down at night, I ask him what his three favorite things from the day were. Sometimes they’re obvious to me (we went bowling! we went swimming!) and sometimes he takes my breath away with the simplicity of what has made him happiest (I found one red leaf in a big pile of yellow ones and I saved it in my pocket!). Recently, he’s been asking me back what my three favorite things have been and deciding on my favorite moments has in itself become one of my favorite parts of the day. Funny how that happens.

Photos That Have Made Me Happy This Week

I share lots of my happy moments on Instagram (you can follow me here) but there are an extra couple of pictures included here. πŸ™‚

We hiked! (Little hikes I could do with Baby T strapped to me, but still…) I can’t tell you how great it is to be living in an area with such natural beauty so accessible. I found this great place with short walking paths all along and across the Winooski River recently when Baby T was just not having a good day and I needed to walk him around to get him to nap in the afternoon. It was so pretty, I knew I needed to bring the whole family.

We baked! Roman and I baked cookies this week. We made chocolate chip, as well as peanut butter chocolate chip. (Both were decidedly non-healthy recipes, because COOKIES.) It was the first time he’s really shown a lot of interest in the cooking process and the fact that he got to eat the cookies he made at the end? Priceless.

Baby T is an eating machine. He will eat anything. And LOTS of it. He eats so much more than Roman used to as a baby when he was being introduced to solids, it’s amazing. I’m not even bothering using my BabyCook machine this time, because it doesn’t make enough! I’ve just been cooking stuff up and blending it in my BlendTec. Here he managed to smear much of his banana, beet, yogurt and spinach puree over his face.

New Spandits! Spandits came out with a bunch of different patterns recently and I just bought these tights in the Chantilly print. Aren’t they pretty? (They’re in one of the hiking photos, too.) Remember you can use the code SPANDITSLOVE for 10% off since I’m an ambassador (tell them I sent you) and right now they’re offering free shipping on all orders placed before Thanksgiving!

Five Things I’ve Read and Seen This Week

If you missed it last week, I wrote about using writing tips to recharge your workout. Maybe I was onto something deeper – The Atlantic just ran this article about Why Writers Run

This. Just this:

This Onion article on kid’s meals made me laugh.

Popcorn and wine. I know I have spent many a Friday night in the company of both of these. But I had never thought about specific wine pairings to popcorn toppings…until now. I present to you, Popcorn Recipes that Pair Awesomely With Wine.

Have I shared how much I love the show Drunk History? Here’s one I watched recently (in hysterics) about Bobby Fischer, king of the chess people:

  1. I feel you with the funk sister. I’m shaking mine off as we speak since I pinned that wine and popcorn pairing article and am already planning a girl’s night around it!
I love the “happy things” at bedtime and need to start doing that with the boys immediately.
Here’s to a weekend that will change your life πŸ™‚ Cheers!

    1. Doing the ‘three things’ with kids can totally change your perspective. I’m curious to see what his three things are for Christmas Day – whether they’re experiences or gifts…

  2. I love the happy things at bedtime too! I’m feeling funky this week too. I think after so much sunshine this fall, the week of dreary rain is getting to me. Have a great weekend and thanks for linking up to High Five Friday!

    1. Love your High Five Friday! It’s so fun to read everyone’s posts. Such a motivating way to kick off a weekend.

    1. I think it’s being in nature and just being able to breathe deep and get a different perspective that makes hiking so restorative. I’ve really been enjoying being in a place where it’s so much easier to access trails. πŸ™‚
