Stop Freaking Out About Holiday Eating

This week is Thanksgiving. It’s a pretty new holiday to me, as an Aussie, and I have to say the inclusion of pumpkin pie as a staple of the meal has made it one of my favorite holidays of the year. Putting aside the history of Thanksgiving, for me the day is all about family, catching up, enjoying good food and wine, and now that I’m a mama, making memories with my little Roman, who is growing up so quickly.

You know what Thanksgiving is not about for me?

Freaking out about holiday eating.

Stop Freaking Out About Holiday Eating

I understand that there are lots of people who are heading into this holiday either in the middle of a weight-loss, or maybe just coming to the realization that they’d like to lose some weight, for whatever reason. I understand the holiday mostly revolves around food. And that sometimes, family get-togethers can be stressful and let’s face it…most of us are not immune to stress-eating.

BUT – it’s just one day. It’s just one meal. If you want to try to control some of the food choices, then I’m all for the healthy, lightened-up versions of Turkey Day faves. But if you love pumpkin pie as much as I do, then have a slice of it and enjoy every delicious bite.

If you want to avoid holiday weight gain, don’t let your healthy habits slide – keep working out, make healthy choices most of the time, but don’t deny yourself your holiday favorites, either. When you restrict and deny yourself, it usually makes you want something more and fixate upon it.

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Are you worried about holiday eating?

  1. I never worry about Holiday eating because I try to limit myself with what I eat. I love cornbread casserole, stuffing, turkey (duh!) and of courrrseeee….pupkin pie with some dream whip (yup, dream whip, not whipped cream) on top. Have a fabulous Holiday!

    1. Mmmmm….pumpkin pie!! πŸ™‚ Even though you guys celebrate in October, you should probably have a little slice tomorrow for all your US friends!! πŸ˜‰

  2. I don’t think I have a favorite Thanksgiving food – this year I’m trying several new things.
And – I don’t really freak out about the meal/day – I just work out a little harder.
