As we head into Mother’s Day weekend, I want you to think about all the awesome fit mamas in your life. Your own mother, yourself, your cousin, sister, best friend, or your favorite blogger. Okay, now that you’ve thought about them, why not nominate them to be featured on Fit Mama Friday? I am always looking for submissions and in fact, I am currently all out of fit mamas!
How could this be? Where are all the fit mamas at?
Don’t be shy! If you want to nominate yourself to be featured, I am all for that! If you’re a blogger, you get a little extra exposure with links to your site and all of your social media included in your post.
Read all the Fit Mama Friday stories here.
If you know someone you think would be great for the series, let them know you’d like to nominate them, then send their contact details to me at finefitday@gmail.com. If it’s a blogger you don’t know, contact me directly and I will reach out to let them know a reader has suggested they’d be a wonderful Fit Mama Friday. Seriously, what a great compliment to receive – that someone thinks you are a fit mama whose story should be shared!
Frequently Asked Questions
I’m working on my fitness after having kids, but I’m not in the best shape of my life – can I be on the series when I get to where I want to be?
You can be on the series NOW! Here’s how I explain what constitutes a Fit Mama Friday: a fit and healthy mama who ensures fitness is a priority in her life. No mention of six-pack abs, or deadlift minimum, or food journal documentation! If you’re making time to work out and be healthy and it’s a priority for you to be a fit mama, then you’re perfect for the series. The most inspiring fit mamas are the ones who are working hard towards their goals.
I’m a parent who is definitely fit and healthy and dedicated to setting a great example for my kids. I’d love to be on Fit Mama Friday….but I’m a Dad.
Good news – you can join the exclusive club of one (to date) Fit Day Fridays I have featured! Check out Halann’s feature here. Since I featured a fit dad, I’ve changed the description of the series to indicate I’m all for the fellas getting involved! Feel free to nominate yourself, or a fit dad in your life. (P.S. I change the title to Fit Dad Friday for a male feature, so don’t worry about that!)
I’d love to be featured, but I’m very conscious of my children’s privacy on the internet, so I don’t think being on Fit Mama Friday will work for me.
It won’t be an issue – when I send you the questions and requirements for your article, I ask if you want your children mentioned by name, or how I should refer to them. You are not at all obligated to include photos of them, or even reveal gender and age, if you’re not comfortable with that. The story is about you and what you do to make being a fit mama work for your lifestyle.
How much time and effort will it require from me? I’m not sure I have time.
When I get in touch with the requirements, I’ll give you a couple of dates to choose from, with the deadline for each. If those don’t work, you can let me know what does work for you. I’ll send you a few questions – some that I send to all my fit mamas and some which will be more specifically aimed at you. You can answer them as thoroughly as you want. I also ask that you email me some photos you’d like included. After submitting your answers and photos, I may email you the week of your feature if I have any follow-up questions, or if I need to clarify anything with you.
If you’re a blogger, I’d love for you to link to your feature on your blog on the day it’s published and of course I’d love it if you’d share the post via social media, but there’s no obligation.
What if I don’t want photos of myself included?
While I think the pictures really make the Fit Mama Friday features more interesting and relatable, we can definitely work around it if you don’t want photos of yourself. For example, if you eat healthily, you can include photos of your food, or meal prep. If you’re a runner, you can send photos of your favorite place to run. If you have a favorite quote that inspires your fitness, I can turn that into an image as well.
Can I review the post before it’s published?
Unfortunately, no. Nine times out of ten, I use your words verbatim in the article. (The one time out of ten would be to add a word like, “yes”, or “because”, for clarity). Occasionally, I will change my question slightly to fit the way you’ve answered the original general question. If, for example, I’ve asked you “What’s your favorite way to work out?” and you answer with how much you love mixed martial arts and why it’s been the most amazing experience for you, I might reword the question as, “Tell me why you love mixed martial arts so much – how has it impacted your life?” I promise you will never be quoted out of context and if there’s anything you’re uncomfortable sharing, just don’t include it in your responses.
I’m a blogger and I’d like to post my Fit Mama Friday feature on my own blog as a post in the future, is that okay?
Occasionally I have someone write a guest post for Fit Mama Friday, in lieu of the interview format. If you do want to use it on your own blog, I ask that you wait until a month after your post publishes, and indicate in an introduction that it was originally a guest post for Fine Fit Day, with a link to the original Fit Mama Friday post.
I’m a step-mama; adoptive mama; foster mama; full-time carer – can I be on Fit Mama Friday?
OF COURSE! So long as (in the case of step-mama and full-time carer) your child’s other parents are comfortable with that and give their permission. In the case of foster parents, usually you are not legally allowed to show any photographs of your child – in your case I would suggest we make the post entirely about you and your fitness story, mentioning that you are a foster parent and leave it at that. All mamas RULE and I’d love to feature you!
I’m pregnant with my first child – can I be on Fit Mama Friday once he or she is born?
You can be on the series right now! I’ve featured lots of pregnant mamas-to-be! I’m a huge proponent of fit and active pregnancies, so I’d love to share how you’re working out and staying healthy during pregnancy.
So, what are you waiting for? Contact me today at finefitday@gmail.com to get on the series, or to nominate someone. I’d love to hear from you so I can keep Fit Mama Friday going strong!
Emailing you now 🙂
