New York, New York! Prospect Park

Scenes from a weekend #35

Good morning, weekend. Scenes from a weekend #35 I’m not going to lie, it was a struggle to get out of bed early Saturday morning to get my long run done. Every fiber of my being told me to stay snuggled up and cozy in bed. I got up, but it was a close one. Views like this don’t hurt once I’m out. πŸ™‚ After a sluggish, hot, long run (just shy of 11 miles), I quickly showered, then we headed to the carousel in Prospect Park for a birthday party! (I swear, all the mama stuff that keeps me moving and running around post-run helps my recovery). I couldn’t have been happier to see this awesome spread when we got there – yes, please to bagels and fruit! (Not pictured – lots of coffee, too). Scenes from a weekend #35 The party was so much fun – it was for two of Roman’s little buddies, sisters who turned 2 and 4 within a week of each other, so it was a huge crowd of adorable kiddos, lots of fun games on the lawn and unlimited carousel rides!! (I think quite a few of the adults got as much of a kick out of the carousel ride as the kids did). Scenes from a weekend #35 When cake time rolled around, Roman made sure he was front and center. In case you were wondering, yes he is licking his fingers in that second photo. And yes, that does mean my son totally took a swipe of cake. Little monkey. Luckily that’s one of the birthday girls next to him doing the exact same thing, so he got away with it. Scenes from a weekend #35 More recovery was necessary once we got home. It was really humid this weekend in NYC. Usually I stick to water, but when it gets ridiculously humid, I feel like I need something extra to replenish everything I sweat out, so then I’ll drink coconut water. Scenes from a weekend #35 Having pizza probably helped replenish salts as well…

Fran stayed inside the lines *nearly* the whole time he was coloring. I’m so proud.

Roman continued the artistic trend and we broke out the watercolors for a little indoor painting time while it thunder-stormed outside. In case you can’t see it, this is apparently a picture of a bass guitar.

Tell me you don’t see it.

I headed out again on Sunday (SundayRUNday!). I sweat more than I thought was humanly possible. Scenes from a weekend #35 I just finished reading ‘Going Clear‘, which is all about Scientology, for book club. It was fascinating, I highly recommend it. There’s one point where the authorΒ mentions a video leaked of Tom Cruise addressing a Scientology meeting and it sounds like he’s speaking gobbledygook. The writer pointsΒ out that if you were part of the religion, it would totally make sense, because it’s just jargon and acronyms that every Scientologist knows. It reminded me of fitness/running speak (for example, see #15 on this list), so I want to know, if you’re not a runner, are there any running terms or acronyms you come across when reading blogs or articles that are meaningless to you?

We also watched Gravity this weekend (just catching up on the Oscar noms from early this year – #parenthood) and WOW I loved it. Sandra Bullock was so good. Usually I don’t mind seeing movies at home, because I don’t really care about seeing them right away, but that would have been amazing to see on the big screen. Can you even begin to imagine seeing Earth from space?

If you run or workout in the mornings, is it harder for you to get up early on the weekend?

Last movie you saw in the theater? (I don’t even remember. Tragic.)

  1. Haha I have the opposite problem, I struggle to stay in bed on a weekend, even though I know I should relax more πŸ˜› I love Roman’s artwork….that is clearly a bass guitar….duh πŸ™‚ I went to see Hercules in IMAX yesterday, but that was my first film in a while. Nice job on getting through those runs, hope the humidity tips helped πŸ™‚

    1. I would love to be a natural early riser! It would make those weekend runs so much easier to start! And yes, your humidity tips continue to help!

  2. I’m the same as Tina, it’s hard for me to sleep in on the weekend. My body’s internal clock wants me to get up and go for a hike πŸ™‚ Looks like a great weekend! Last movie I saw was How to Train your Dragon 2…SO SO good!

    1. I love that kids movies these days are fun for adults as well! Makes it much easier to sit through them again and again…and again….and again! πŸ˜‰

  3. Looks like such a fun birthday party! I hate waking up early to run… but after I do it I feel like I can take on the world. I’ve never tried coconut water except in smoothies. Maybe I should…

The IMAX around here rereleased Gravity for a week not too long ago so the hubs and I went to see it there. 3D and IMAX? My husband describes it as a ride. I was hesitant to see it when it was originally released because I wasn’t so sure about the whole only two people in the movie thing. That was probably the last movie I saw in a theater…

    1. I’m exactly the same way – hate getting out of bed, feel amazing knowing I have my run out of the way so early. 3D and IMAX for Gravity would have made me feel a bit dizzy & sick, I think, especially when she was spinning around.

  4. I woke up early Saturday morning to get a walk in before the heat and humidity set in. Getting up didn’t bother me, but I wanted nothing more than to go back to sleep a couple hours after returning home. Guess that’s what being 36 weeks pregnant will do to you πŸ™‚ The last movie we saw in the theaters was ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, oh my! So sad! Keep a box of tissues close if you decide to watch it.

    1. Oh, nap away, Jaclyn! I remember some glorious naps in the last few weeks of my pregnancy, usually after getting back from the gym! πŸ™‚

  5. I’m sort of like Tina – I try to sleep in a bit on the weekend and it rarely happens!
I haven’t been to the theater in years – I’m pretty happy watching movies at home!!!
Great job on the weekend runs!

    1. I do love going to the movies, but I also really, really, really love wearing my pajamas and having a glass of wine while watching a movie and they frown on that at the theater! πŸ˜‰

  6. I think the last movie I saw in a theater was Frozen! Sad indeed.
I love Roman’s hair, per usual.
And we went to a water park for four hours on Saturday and my husband bought me a Vita Coco Pineapple Coconut Water after and I downed in. It felt GREAT!

    1. Oh, I haven’t tried any of the flavored ones! Pineapple coconut sounds delicious!!

  7. I prefer to watch movies at home! You can pause the movie to go to the bathroom, you can eat something delicious that is not popcorn and have a bottle of wine (well, when you aren’t preggo). I really don’t enjoy the theater that much at all!
