Well, I really thought I’d have a baby by the end of March. I just had the feeling I’d go earlier than I did the first time around. But here we are, a couple of days into April, and still no sign this little one is ready to introduce itself anytime soon!! But at least one thing’s for sure, the end of April round-up should be full of adorable baby pictures!
I’m up to the point of weekly visits with our baby doc now. A couple of weeks ago we decided to take Roman, because he is SO excited about new baby’s arrival (every day he asks me, “What time will baby be here, Mama?” I wish I knew, buddy!) and he is also fascinated with the idea that we actually get to see baby “on TV”.
He had a great time, loved seeing the ultrasound and listening to baby’s heartbeat. Our OB adjusted well to not being able to tell his usual completely inappropriate but hysterical stories and even managed to control his potty mouth. π
Afterwards, Fran went back to work and Roman and I headed to MoMA for a visit. Roman is better behaved in art museums than in any other place, thankfully. He clearly has inherited his mama’s art loving genes. MoMA also has an ‘art lab’ for kids, which was so much fun – lots of activities and books and art projects, which he adored.
In terms of workouts, I’ve been pretty consistent about working out, but the intensity has definitely dropped off as I’ve gotten bigger and more uncomfortable! March began with quite a bit of running, but now I’m content to stick to strengthΒ training, yoga, spinning and I recentlyΒ added in swimming as well. You can check out more of my workouts over in my last pregnancy update. And if you want to find out more about how I’m planning to return to running after having this little one, my latest Run Report gives you a postpartum preview!
What is definitely getting old is the constant layering to go outside. The last few days have been a little warmer, but March was no picnic when it came to the weather. I mean, snowstorms still? Is that allowed in March? I am so ready to retire my winter coat and hat and scarf already.
I had a long overdue night out with one of my best girlfriends this month. π I think the last time she and I went out together, I was fake drinking because I was so early on in my pregnancy! It’s amazing how so much time just kind of flies by without realizing, but it’s so important to have those catch-ups with friends! In any event, I clearly was not fake drinking for this outing – my pre-dinner cocktail was seltzer. I am so excited for a glass or two of champagne after having this baby!! Our local favorite wine store just moved into a huge new space and it’s calling my name. π
Meals and snacks this month – yes, I am still cooking every night. No, I am not being particularly ambitious in the kitchen. There are a lot of old favorites in rotation. I’m also trying to stock the freezer with freezer meals to do as little cooking as possible when I finally have baby.
Clockwise from top left:
- A veggie burger on an Ezekiel bun with some homemade baked fries. This, or turkey burgers, isΒ such an easy dinner to throw together and it’s delicious.
- If you haven’t tried chocolate chips in a spoonful of peanut butter as a snack/treat you are missing out.
- I just discovered this brand of hummus – Eat Well, Embrace Life. They do a traditional hummus, but then they have all these interesting flavors. We’ve tried three so far and they are delicious. This sriracha carrot one is my fave.
- This photo is a sneak peek at a new recipe I’ll have up in the next couple of weeks. It’s been a little while since I created a recipe from scratch and this turned out great – coconut chili cod with mango salsa.
- Oh coffee, I love every sip of you. I can’t wait to have more than one cup a day again.
- And here’s a prime example of me being as lazy as possible with cooking – for lunch one day I whipped up some frozen veggies and brown rice for myself (I added hot sauce, does that count as creative?) while Roman had leftover pasta, veggies and hummus.
Roman and I have been getting out and about a lot on the days I don’t train clients. Thank goodness for our local Y when it’s been miserable out. He particularly loves going to the art class they have for the littles. So cute. He LOVES drawing and painting and he actually drew a face this month on his little etch a sketch board – I was so excited and made such a big deal of it when he showed me, that now he’s doing a lot of faces.
You can see him with his new best neighborhood friend in one of the photos below – Rigby the pug puppy. They love each other. Roman screams “RIGBY!!!” at the top of his lungs every time he spots him, and Rigby’s dog walker is so sweet about stopping to let them chase each other around for 10 minutes. I think he’s even rivaling the cats for Roman’s affection.
We also try to get out to the playground every day and there have been a couple of times in the last week or so, when the weather’s been nicer, that I’ve gazed longingly at the runners while pushing Roman on the swings. Then I read this post from Christine – it’s exactly how I feel about not being able to just get out and run right now.
I featured a couple of awesome fit mamas and another fit dad on Fit Mama Friday (Fit Dad Friday) in March! In case you missed them, don’t forget to check out Eric, Jenny and Nicole’s features. Tomorrow I have the super smart, awesome Melissa Burton from The Valentine RD on the series – and then my Fit Mama Friday series will also be taking maternity leave!! I’m going to line up some amazing parents to highlight once I get back to blogging regularly post-baby, so keep your eyes peeled around June.
Finally, a few posts you may have missed this month:

What went on for you in March?
Do you have gorgeous Spring weather already? Or are you still in winter coats?
I am so ready for spring to get here and stay. This winter was brutal. My cousin just had her baby the other day and she wasn’t due until mid April. Hopefully yours will be coming soon. I bet you are way anxious!

I am just anxious to get my body back – it is super uncomfortable being this pregnant! And yes, the back and forth weather doesn’t help at all.
How awesome that Roman loves to go to art museums! And that you can go to MoMa on the regular–jealous of that! Maybe the baby is waiting for real spring to kick in? ; )

Baby is waiting for *something* Amanda! Now, if only I could work out what that was and encourage it to get outta there already!! Roman is really so good in museums – which is kind of a surprise given his abundant rampaging and energy levels everywhere else. As an art lover, it’s the best gift ever to have a child I can so easily take to museums!
When did Roman start looking so grown-up?! He looks like a mini Fran!!!
I’m telling you – Wednesday!!! April 8 is a great day for a baby (mine will be 14 that day)!!!

Isn’t he tall and boy-like all of a sudden? I thought the same thing when I was putting these pictures together. Looks like baby had other ideas for its birthday -probably didn’t want to steal Hunter’s thunder!! π
I think an April baby is just wonderful. No more flu season and stomach bug season, and the weather will turn and you’ll go for nice long walks with both kids. Weird, right?
The carrot hummus looks awesome! And when I was pregnant, I would totally do a spoonful of peanut butter with chocolate chips. I have no idea why I don’t do that anymore!

I know, I know, the longer it takes, the more lovely and Spring-like the weather will be when baby actually arrives!! It makes total sense, but I *still* just want it to happen already! (So weird that you can last 9 months of growing and waiting and anticipating, then the very last few days are so, so brutal to wait out). I hope you can find that brand of hummus, because it’s so delicious and we haven’t found a flavor we don’t like yet! (I’m not even usually a flavored hummus lover, either).
