Scenes from a weekend #18

Happy Monday, friends! How was your weekend? The weather was so lovely here in NYC and we definitely took advantage of the warmer temperatures and the sunshine.

On Saturday Roman and I went to his swimming lesson, which was adorably fun as usual. He loves the pool. He always tells his dad he “went swimming like a dolphin!” After the pool, we headed to the New York Public Library main branch to check out a great exhibition called The ABC of It: Why Children’s Books Matter (which I actually found out about by reading Gabby’s post about it! Thanks, Gabby! πŸ™‚ )

Highlights: Goodnight Moon room (Roman was SO excited – this is one of his favorite books and he couldn’t believe he was in the scene); a Where the Wild Things Are monster cut out (which Roman couldn’t have been less interested in, but I thought was adorable); some beautiful first editions of iconic children’s classics; a picture of the girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland; and (Roman’s favorite) a model of the car from The Phantom Tollbooth. In fact, he loved this car so much that prying him away from it and actually leaving the library ensued in a pretty awesome tantrum. πŸ™‚

That afternoon I had a lovely, easy recovery run (in short sleeves!!). Prospect Park was absolutely packed with happy Brooklynites enjoying actually being outdoors rather than trapped inside by the polar vortex.

Saturday night we had homemade pizza – Β so yummy. I used Bobby Flay’s pizza dough recipe and got some use out Scenes from a weekendof my food processor for a change. This whole week I’ve been cooking up a storm – I went back to one of the Elf for Health challenges and last weekend I wrote out a meal plan for the week. It’s amazing what a difference it makes just to spend some time planning and shopping for a whole week at once. There was no scrambling to decide what to cook for dinner every night. I’m not ready to tackle Lindsay’s impressive weekly food prep yet, but baby steps!Scenes from a weekend

On Sunday, we had an amazing sleep in – 8am, people!! Woo hoo! I don’t know how it happened, since with the clocks going forward for Daylight Savings, I figured Roman would be up at some horrendously early hour.

After someΒ brekky, we headed to the rink for some more ice skating action.

Sunday afternoon I had a good medium long run – loving the time change and the extra hour of sunlight! We also had a mini photo-shoot in the living room for a workout post you’ll see on The Stir this week! πŸ™‚

Last night we watched the finale of True Detective – whoa, was that show creepy-good.

What was your favorite part of your weekend?

What’s your favorite children’s book? (Mine was called Monty by James Stevenson)

Did you miss your extra hour of the weekend from the time change?

    1. I’ve got to just get my act together and at least chop some veggies for prep. Even just meal planning was a huge timesaver. Lindsay is superhuman, possibly. πŸ˜‰

  1. Yay for nice weather! We hit 40 so I enjoyed running sans jacket but still long sleeves. Beggars can’t be choosers though. I am dragging from the time change, especially since we went to a wedding that went pretty late!

    1. Yay for nice weather indeed!! This coming weekend is supposed to be nice as well…soon enough I’ll be complaining about humidity and heat. πŸ˜‰

  2. My kids slept in until 8 on Sunday. Of course their bodies really were calling it 7:00 but I am going with what the clock said!
The weather was promising and I bet it will be the same this weekend. And that Goodnight Moon room is awesome! I guess that is one of my favorite books for little, little kids.

    1. Tamara, Roman was so excited when he saw it. They had the book in the room and he picked it up and was saying, “Moon room, Mama! MOON ROOM!” Then he proceeded to try to turn the lamp on, reach for the balloon, tried to pick up the comb and brush. It was some adorable stuff.
