Scenes from a weekend #16

It was a beautiful weekend in New York City! Well, at least Saturday morning was! I ran a 4 mile race in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Despite some icy conditions, it was a gorgeous morning to run. While I didn’t go as spectacularly fast as I hoped I might, I chalked up another PR for the 4 mile distance. That’s not something I ever really expected to be blogging about – I’m turning 36 years old this week. I’ve had a baby. I’m a mama to a very active toddler. And I’m faster than I’ve ever been. Part of it is definitely that I’ve gotten serious about what I want to achieve from running (I’ve even got a running coach), but I think another very important factor is that I truly believe I can do it. That’s definitely something I want to write about in future, because I think it’s a powerful force.

So here’s the face of a faster-than-expected happy bunny:

Then, we decided it was such a lovely weekend, we should get out and go visit some family upstate. So we did. πŸ™‚

He was obsessed with one of the dog cages. I swear we didn't just leave him there. He even convinced one of his cousins to hang out in there with him! ;)

Coming home, the Hudson River looked spectacular from the train.

And on the cab ride back from Grand Central to Brooklyn, we rediscovered the magic ability of car seats to get Roman to instantly nap.

Such a lovely weekend! How was your weekend? What was your favorite part? Have you ever taken an impromptu weekend trip?

  1. Hooray for being a fast mama runner!! I’ve said the same thing – I’m running stronger and faster now than when I competed in college!
Love the pictures of Roman with his heavy eyes!
Impromtu trips are the best – less stress usually, too!
I had a planned trip but it was super quick – made for an incredible weekend, though!

    1. I LOVED reading about your weekend! What an awesome experience! And thank you so much – I am still trying to wrap my head around being faster now, it seems counter-intuitive to me, but I’m enjoying every moment!

    1. Thanks Britt! πŸ™‚ Yes, watching him get lulled to sleep is just adorable. (PS: I love the Hunter Valley! Going to visit your post for photos now)

  2. Looks like a fun weekend! Congrats on the PR. I swear 30’s and 40’s and motherhood are perfect for strong running, Enjoy it! Few things are better in life than a toddler drifting off! Haha!

    1. Thanks, and I think you’re on to something with motherhood and getting past 30 being great for runners!

  3. Congrats on the PR. I do believe that sometimes as we take things more seriously we set new records/milestones even though number wise we might be older.

It cracks me up what the kids like to play in. If it’s a box or box like they are totally happy.

    Great pics!

    1. Thanks! That’s a good point, that taking it more seriously means more than your age when it comes to results. Excellent training and dedication are kind of magic pills I guess!
