Scenes from a weekend #24

Did everyone have a relaxing Easter weekend? We had a lovely timeΒ in Brooklyn with friends. On Saturday we went out for brunch with a big group of friends. I went for my long run early that morning, so I could have a Bloody Mary. πŸ™‚ Yeah, I’m a planner like that.

On Saturday night we had some friends over for pizza and wine – none of which I have pictures of because we had so much fun with them I didn’t even think to take photos.

The big, exciting event in our household was the impending arrival of a certain bunny, bearing baskets of Β chocolate and primed to hide eggs all over the place. We were rather looking forward to the egg discovery, as well as Roman, since the bunny hid the eggs after pizza and wine with friends, and he may have wondered if all the hiding places would be fresh in his memory…

Roman woke up horribly, ridiculously early. He was a little excited.

The photos are fuzzy because EARLY.

Then the hunt began. After finding all of the eggs, RomanΒ promptly forgot about them and went back to his beloved trucks.

(He did have a chocolate egg for dessert Sunday night and proceeded to run back and forth at topΒ speed for about 20 minutes before his bath).

I think he really has the whole Easter tradition thing down pat.

In workouts, as well as my long run Saturday, I also got some strength training, some stretch time and rolling, and got to the gym for an elliptical session as well. My back is feeling 100% again, thankfully, so I’m hoping it was a one-time incident.

As well as brunch, pizza and wine, some slightly more healthy food choices over the weekend included a delicious kale salad with orange segments, goat cheese and fennel; some vegan faux gras on crackers (which tastes amazing similar to fois gras – my clients introduced me to it and I found it in a grocery store near me); as well as a Caprese salad as part of our Easter dinner. I know, SUPER traditional.

How much chocolate did you consume this weekend? (Me: Lots.)

Favorite pizza? (Our friends ordered a broccoli rabe, sausage & red pepper pizza which was AMAZING)

Parents – what time did your kids get up on the weekend? (Mine: EARLY.)

  1. I love kids and Easter! Looks like a lovely weekend for sure. For once we had gorgeous weather (76!). I gave up chocolate (successfully!) for lent and somehow managed not to overdo it yesterday.

    1. That’s so awesome that you went to her cooking class! I’ll have to try basilcotta, I am so impressed with the faux gras. Even Fran, *after* being told it was made with lentils & crushed walnuts, thought it was delicious. πŸ˜‰

  2. I’d rather not say how much chocolate I consumed this weekend, because I just unwrapped a piece of chocolate as I sat down to read this!
And we have the polar bear jammies too! Maybe they came in a set with the teddy bear ones? I think I got them at Target and I rarely buy clothes because…hand me downs…but I couldn’t resist these for the winter.

    1. Yes! They were a Target set of two! Roman has nearly all hand-me-downs from a dear friend’s son, but I remember I needed fleecy ones for this cold winter, and how can you go wrong with adorable bear PJs? πŸ™‚

  3. I love your photos, they do add to your post. Can I ask how you manage to put more than one photo in one frame?

My two are older, so it was me who woke them up squealing that the Easter bunny had been. They didn’t look too pleased and my 17 year old son refused point blank to charge around the garden with the neighbours watching! But my 14 daughter had no such inhibitions and proceeded to charge around the garden like a 3 year old. I laughed ’til I peed myself!

I ate far too much chocolate and pulled a calf muscle chasing the dog, so a run is out of the question this morning, but I do have the ever faithful elliptical trainer to turn too, so I have no excuse to go up a knicker size!

Your Easter dinner sounds nice. We had charred lamb – my Dad has never got the hang of barbecuing, bless him – fresh salad from the garden – courtesy of my parents – lemony potatoes, coleslaw and tzatziki (a garlicky, yogurt and cucumber dip). All very tasty – probably due to the fact that it was all prepared by someone else!

    1. Thanks, Debbie. πŸ™‚ Check out PicMonkey, it’s a website where you can edit your photos, collage them, add text & graphics, etc. It’s like a free, lite version of photoshop. I am addicted to it.

That’s so funny about your son! Teenagers are WAY too cool for egg hunting! πŸ˜‰

  4. Lovely pictures! We had very relaxing long weekend with loads of eggs, cakes and ice creams πŸ™‚ Now is time to go back to reality and healthy food.
My favorite pizza is La Napoletana with anchovies, garlic and mozzarella.
