Brooklyn. Summer. Weekend.
It was fun to be home this weekend and enjoy a gorgeous couple of daysΒ in the city.
I got both my weekend runs in early Saturday and Sunday in an effort to beat the heat:
It may sound a little odd, but I don’t hate hill repeats. In fact, I kind of like them. They may be steep, but they’re short-lived and the feeling of accomplishment after the workout is pretty awesome.
Saturday, Roman and I had some playground adventures:
To cool down on Sunday, we all headed to the park to check out the Splash Pad:
The Splash Pad is what’s become of the ice skating rink in Prospect Park now it’s a little warmer than sub zero.
It’s about 3 inches of water and fountains all around the edge. I kind of love it. So does Roman….until this happened:
Luckily, I have a healthy collection of Dora band-aids.
All better! Moving on,Β I’m sure this is not a new tip, but I only just thought to do it and it’s changed my summer coffee drinking life. See, I’m a hot coffee year round kind of girl, mainly because I feel like iced coffee always gets watered down as the ice melts. Bu this week I took my leftover coffee and froze it in ice cube trays.
Voila! The iced coffee which actually becomes more caffeinated as the ‘ice’ melts.
And what would a Brooklyn weekend be without a little stoop time?
Cheers!
Yes, Roman and I are wearing matching shoes. Yes, I do say, “Twinsies!” when we put on our shoes.
Finally I’ll leave you with this grammatical triumph. There’s a brownstone in our neighborhood and the owners often write elaborate chalk messages for each holiday and sometimes just general sayings, out on their sidewalk. This weekend brought this:
Which I thought was really cute. But oh, how that “your” irritated the crap out of me. I actually vaguely threatened to Fran that I was going to go back with a piece of chalk to correct it. Don’t worry, I didn’t.
But someone else did. π
Grammatical justice is served.
Have you tried the coffee ice cube trick?
Hill repeats: special kind of torture, or favorite workout?
Grammatical pet peeve?
I love your pics (especially you cheersing with your twinsie!). I actually like hill repeats too… I find it breaks it up and I’m pretty stubborn on improving my time. The only thing I don’t really like about them is wondering if my neighbors think I’m crazy for running up and down the same spot repeatedly!

I think your neighbors probably just think you’re a badass! π
Great job on the runs! I feel the same way about speed workouts as you do with hills- such a great feeling of accomplishment. Hills are growing on me, too. π What a great weekend- splash pads are the best! As are Dora band-aids.

Dora can make anything feel better. π I feel the same way about speed workouts, except when the intervals are on the long side. Then I pretty much just feel like I’m going to die.
Ha ha ha ha, I love that someone corrected the sidewalk grammar! And the pics on the stoop are awesome. You look gorgeous in that LBD!

Thanks lady! π That dress is super comfortable, it’s Patagonia.
Haha I l love that someone corrected the your/you’re, though I’m not surprised
I don’t hate hill repeats, but I wouldn’t say I like them either. They probably fall somewhere between trackwork (yuck) and tempo runs (almost fun)

I definitely enjoy a hill repeat workout more once it’s over! π
Genius idea for the coffee! You and Roman are way too cute together! I love the “Cheers!”.

We taught him to do that at a very young age. I think it’s an important life skill.
Last week I sent text using “there” instead of “their”. My disappointment in self was deep. Almost ruined my whole day. Good thing the chocolate square I later fed myself helped sooth the agony.

Ha ha ha! I totally understand. Auto correct is the WORST for that. For some reason my phone doesn’t like when I write “its” with no apostrophe and I can’t handle the it’s/it’s mix up, even on a text!
Also – case in point, my phone autocorrected me writing “it’s/its”! HA!
Where do I start? I love everything about this. I’m with you completely on hill repeats – they are FAR better then speed repeats. Love Roman and the splash pad! How cool is that? You are an iced coffee genius! I had never thought of that and will start making cubes tomorrow. Brilliant!
Stoop sips? Yes please! And, lastly, thank goodness grammatical justice was served!!!

π Hill repeats are over so much quicker than speed repeats. Maybe it’s having a distance rather than a time that makes it better? Anytime you’re in BK, stop by – we love stoop visitors. π
The coffee ice cube trick is brilliant! I wish they did that at coffee shops because sometimes I don’t want to finish my drink so I put it in the fridge after taking out the ice cubes.. and I lose a third of the drink itself!
The grammatical triumph is fantastic because that IS my pet peeve with grammar. I’d love to tell you I’m the one who changed it, but my handwriting is awful.

I can’t believe it took me this long to do it. Now you can make your iced coffees last longer! π
I loved seeing your Brooklyn shots. Brooklyn in summer is heavenly…until August when the humidity and the smells hit high heaven BUT I still miss it a lot!
I love iced coffee so much that I’ve been doing the coffee cube thing for awhile. My husband wrote a blog post about it and he still gets hits on the post!
We’re of the same mind for the grammar thing – the most recent was lose and loose but don’t get me started!!! Have you seen the Weird Al “Word Crimes” yet? If not, go to YouTube now and watch it. You’ll love it!

I will definitely check out that video! Lose/loose is another bad one. I have so many peeves with grammar and spelling, it’s a real problem. I figured I couldn’t be the first person to do the coffee ice cubes – so funny that your husband gets traffic still on that post, it’s clearly a hot issue! (See what I did there? Terrible, I know).
I would have felt the need to correct that “your” too!!!
And, I just did hill repeats earlier this week – I’m thinking that I should do them way more often!!!
