Recently, a little box of delicious was delivered to me. I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting a lot from the taste of GoMacro MacroBars. When the company reached out to me to offer a box of their MacroBar Minis, as well as a box to give away to one of you lovelies, I checked them out before I agreed. You know I like to choose real, whole food over processed, but I also love granola bars and snack bars because they’re so easy. They don’t get squished in your bag, they require no prep whatsoever and they’re satisfying enough to tide you over until your next meal.
There are not many bars on the market that meet my criteria for not being horrible for you while still tasting good. I’m always reading ingredients lists and the less I see listed the better. If I know what every one of the ingredients are, then I’m on board.
I was impressed from the start by what I read about GoMacro: A family-run company with roots in organic farming, it’s dedicated to making the best tasting food with the highest quality ingredients. GoMacro is founded on five basic principles: their products are 100% vegan, macrobiotic, wholesome (which they interpret as using ingredients made by nature), sourced sustainably, and the company gives back to the community. As well, their products are USDA certified organic, certified non-GMO, Gluten-Free, and made from mostly raw ingredients.
Doesn’t it sound too good to be true? It did to me! I envisioned biting into one and finding out it tasted like cardboard. Happily, I couldn’t have been more wrong. I tried one the day I received the box and immediately realized there would have to be some serious rationing happening so I wouldn’t eat the whole lot in a week.
Don’t just take my word for it, though. My little three-and-a-half year old assistant willingly volunteered his tasting skills to see how the MacroBars were. He likes the “chocolatey ones” the best. (Saw that coming.) He’s also partial to the cherry flavor. My favorite is the sunflower butter and chocolate* one (which again, took me by surprise – I didn’t think I’d like it) and the granola coconut. Holy yum!
* If you were wondering – I know I did – how something with chocolate could be vegan, the ingredients for chocolate chips are organic cane sugar, organic cocoa and organic cocoa butter – no dairy!
These mini bars work perfectly for me right now – they’re a good snack to have on my little side table where I need my water, tea and snack in easy reach when I’m breastfeeding. And I can throw them in my diaper bag for a quick on-the-go snack for Roman while we’re out and about. Or for the rare, rare occasion when I get out by myself like this week when I was in Manhattan and treated myself to a solo coffee date at my old favorite cafe in SoHo. (heaven)
So here’s how much I like these bars – I’ve already found out where I can buy them online so I can replenish my supply. I am also willing to turn a blind eye to the fact that the Florida Panthers hockey team are patrons of GoMacro. (#LetsGoRangers #NYRangers). These are definitely going to be a go-to snack from now on and I appreciate it’s something I can give my kids occasionally without worrying about the ingredients or whether it’s really healthy. Even the organic brown rice syrup they use in their bars is infant-safe. (Don’t worry, Baby T is not eating such grownup food yet, despite being the giantest baby in the world. He still has a few months before we introduce purees!)

Cool! I think I would like to try one with sunbutter! I’ve been buying the Plum Organics tot bars in flavors like strawberry spinach. Yes, they are for toddlers and yes I eat them anyway.

I haven’t tried the Plum Organics bars! I only knew they made squeezy packs.
I’m going hard on apples & smoked cheddar these days– I love the salty/sweet flava combo! <3
Yum! I love apples with anything.
My favorite portable snack these days is fruit and pretzels. I’d love to try these bars!

I love pretzels, too, but I’m always still hungry unless I have them with hummus or something.
I follow GoMacro on twitter (jtdlt), FB (jtdlt), and Instagram (jdlt)!
GoMacro bars are actually one of my new favorite portable snacks because they’re low glycemic and not huge like other bars, but Kind bars and almonds are also good standbys!
And they’re surprisingly filling for being so small!
