A few weeks ago a friend came by to help me with the boys, so I could sneak out to the gym for a quick workout. I had the boys’ lunch made, I was dressed and ready to go, sneakers laced…then Baby T took one look at our kind friend’s face. Tears. Abundant tears. The screwed-up face, why would you leave me type of tears.
And…cue separation anxiety. We tried for an hour to gently encourage T not to react like he was being kidnapped instead of babysat. (My three-year-old, meanwhile, was just thrilled to have a new, rapt audience for his Lego-building skills). An hour later, as I did the laundry downstairs with baby snugly in a carrier on my front, in an attempt to get some mileage of having someone mind at least one of the boys, it was suddenly clear.
Home workouts are where it’s at.
Whether you’re in a position like me, where it’s just not always feasible to get to the gym; or maybe you’re just over the gym scene; or done with paying expensive fees for membership and extra services, it might be time to check out the huge range of workouts you CAN get done at home. And no, it does not make you lazy to want to work out in your living room. It makes you someone who knows how to make it WORK.
In one of those universe-aligning moments, it was around the time I realized I needed to become the living room workout queen in order to keep up with my strength training that I was offered a partnership with Grokker, as part of my ambassadorship with FitFluential. Grokker sponsored this post, as well as provided me with a membership so I could try out their service for review – as always, though, all opinions are my own.
If you’re not familiar with Grokker, I have good news – all my readers get a free 14 day trial of their premium membership service (plus, you can take advantage of an awesome discount for premium membership – more on that in a little bit).
So, what’s so awesome about Grokker? What makes it the right choice for me? Well, as a personal trainer, you know I am picky about form and safety. It’s hard to account for that with an online workout site, but Grokker has partnered with expert instructors who really know what they’re doing. I love that you can browse their library of workouts not only by workout type, but by instructor. There are a few instructors I’m following on my profile, so I know when they post new workouts – it’s easy to find someone who aligns with how YOU want to work out. The workouts I have done have had very clear cues and demonstrations for the exercises – I’m super impressed with the commitment to form.
Check out this abs and butt bootcamp from instructor Kelly Lee, which kicked my…butt. As its title might imply!
I chose it because those are two areas I need to work on: A runner’s glutes are her powerhouse; and after two babies, anything I can do to strengthen my abs is going to help me, not just for running, but for everyday life. Check out my sweaty selfie after the first time I did this workout – looks like I need more work!! There is also an in-built community feature – a Grokker social media, if you will – where the instructors are available and can answer any question you may have, or share advice with you, or just offer encouragement if you reach out looking for a little motivation. Seriously, it’s pretty close to having a trainer in your living room. Also, there are more than 1,500 Premium, full-length HD videos available in the Grokker library. You could do a new workout every day for FOUR YEARS and still have more to check out. You will never get bored! You’re all set whether you’re looking for a quick 15 minute workout, or you have a full hour to devote to exercise. Obviously, the big draw to being an online member is that this is a go-anywhere service. You’re traveling and need a hotel room workout? You got it. You’ve finally made it to a gym with all the bells and whistles and you look around, thinking, “What should I do?” Grab your phone and pull up a video with equipment and got to town! The kids are melting down and you think it’s bedtime until you look at the time and realize it’s only three in the afternoon? Time to search for a ten minute meditation sanity saver.
Grokker isn’t just workouts, either! Check out all the cooking videos you have on hand with your premium membership. No more scrolling through websites trying to find a healthy version of a favorite.
So, you know you want to take advantage of a free trial. Two weeks of workouts with some awesome trainers, which you can do in your living room, coming right up. Use this link to sign up for your complimentary 14 day trial. If you like and you want to continue with a premium membership (which is what I’ve been trying out and LOVE), then you can use this same link for a 40% discount on premium monthly membership.
Once you sign up for your free two weeks, keep in the loop with Grokker by following them all over social media. Find them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube.
Which workout would you try first?
Do you workout at home in workout gear or PJs? (I have to put on workout clothes or it just doesn’t feel right!!)

I really think it’s worth it!!
I think this is great. For those busy moms out there or for anyone that doesn’t want to spend pricey gym memberships. You can still get a great workout in at home if you find something you enjoy. And being able to connect w others is great w accountable.

I know, the social aspect of it is such a great addition. Really helps to have that community.
I had a chance to try Grokker earlier in the year and I was really impressed with the range of workouts they offered! Man, these days at-home workouts are pretty much what I can handle.

There are a lot of good ones and yes, lots of variety!
I have to say that I’m intrigued. I just started doing more at home workouts (in my garage) since I’m always short on time and driving back and forth to the gym is just too many wasted minutes!! I’m going to look into this because you had me with the abs and butt workout ๐
