Workout Clothes Under $50 You'll Love

A couple of weeks ago, a new client came to my gym to meet me for her first session. She asked at the front desk how she’d recognize me. They told her, “Oh, you can’t miss Carly. She’s always in bright colors and crazy patterned tights.” As it turned out, that day happened to be the rare occasion I was dressed head to toe in black (sometimes my inner New Yorker still comes out!). But I’ve always leaned towards fun colors, cool patterns, and clothes that make me smile for working out. And, as someone whose wardrobe is probably 80% workout clothes, I’m something of an expert at finding good deals on gym gear.

Even though there are plenty of brands whose tights and tops cost anywhere from $80 to $180 (yes, really, for a pair of tights…craziness) don’t despair and think you can’t get cute, good-quality workout clothes under $50. They do exist! And I’ve done some scouting around for tops and bottoms under $50 for you.

Because, let’s face it, sometimes we all need some motivation to work out, and a new pair of leggings or a new tank might be just what gets you wanting to go to the gym. 🙂

TOPS

This New Balance Women’s Perfect Tank is one I own (except mine is black). The slight ruching at the sides of the waist make it SO flattering, and the fabric is super comfy and sweat-wicking too. In the photo below, the model is wearing a solid sports bra underneath, but I often wear it with a criss-cross racerback bra to keep that keyhole effect. The tank in turquoise in size M is $27.99.

I think this Champion Women’s French Terry Sleeveless Pullover is so cool. You could layer this over a long-sleeve tee for working out or running outside when it’s cold, or wear it as is in the gym. Shown below in Midnight Vista Blue Heather color, size M is $22.60.

This Essence Tie Back Tank from Athleta is super versatile. You can wear it loose for layering, or even if you want to just wear your activewear for non-active errands, but it also ties back, which is perfect for working out. How many times have you felt a loose top falling down over your shoulders when you’re doing an inverted pose in yoga, or burpees? The navy in size M is $44.00.

I love layered-look style tops, with a built in bra underneath. It’s just enough skin showing if you’re not into midriff-baring crop tops, and it brings a pop of color to your workout top. I wouldn’t wear this running (I need a little more support!) but these are great for strength training. Under Armour Women’s HeatGear Armour 2-in-1 Tank. The Anthracite/Smash Yellow color in size M is $49.99.

For getting to and from your workout (or for throwing on in yoga before savasana – I always get so cold in corpse pose), this lucy Women’s Effortless Ease Jacket is a stylish option. You may remember me reviewing lucy Activewear clothing before – it’s good-quality, well-priced workout gear. The jacket in Asphalt Heather in size M is $38.50.

Etsy is a great place to find workout clothes under $50, especially fun tanks and tops with slogans. This Etsy Gym & Tonic Top would be good for a Friday night workout. 😉 Shown in grey or black, it’s only $19.95.

Did you know H&M make activewear? It’s a great place to find stylish and inexpensive workout clothes like these H&M Yoga Tights. They look super high-end, but they are just $29.99, in size M.

I haven’t ever worn a tutu while running, but it makes me happy when I see someone wearing a tutu in a race. Etsy is a good place to find tutus, especially if you want custom colors or designs. The store TutuSister has a ton of options. This one is their Neon Race Tutu and in size M it is priced at $28.84.
