And what we need to work out is high-quality fitness apparel that works, wicks and looks good while we do what we do. Support black-owned businesses by checking out the following black-owned fitness apparel brands for your next activewear purchase!

GLAMOURINA

Glamourina is an athleisure brand founded by Kia Phillips and Nekol Gaskins. They created their company after finding a void in the market for fitness apparel aimed at socially conscious women and working mothers. Glamourina’s company motto is to “motivate women of color to live healthy, active lifestyles by providing cultural athletic apparel.”

CULTURE FIT

Culture Fit was started by a group of women of West African descent, and their activewear and yoga mats showcase West African prints, in high-quality fabric. Their website states, “We invite women of all backgrounds to enjoy our clothes. To celebrate not only our culture, but to embrace all the different cultures of the world.”

ELEVEN BY VENUS WILLIAMS

EleVen by Venus Williams, an activewear, tennis wear and beauty company, was founded by the legendary athlete Venus Williams. Williams started EleVen to “give women quality activewear that allowed them to feel great and perform better.” I love that much of her clothing has UPF50+ technology and she has a line of sunscreeen!

PRU APPAREL

PRU Apparel was founded by Ebonique Hewing to motivate women and provide a “strong sense of self-confidence, pride and community”. The prints of PRU Apparel are Ankara designs of West African origin.

LUKAFIT

Lukafit is squat-proof in every size! Mbali, the founder of Lukafit, named her activewear company in homage to her South African heritage. The company name is derived from the Zulu word ‘juluka’ – ‘to sweat’. In Mbali’s words, “Lukafit provides activewear specifically designed for our curves and a supportive community of sisters united in self-care.”
