Scenes from a weekend #50

It felt like my weekend started earlier than usual because I snuck in some yoga between clients on Friday.

It was actually another prenatal class – I gave it another shot, because this was a longer class, with a different teacher. I’m so happy I did, because I felt like this was a good balance between being physically challenging and centering as well.

Enormous bonus I hadn’t noticed before at this studio – there are cookies and tea available afterwards. I was a happy bunny, since I seem to be constantly hungry the past couple of weeks.

Speaking of food, the toddler eating issues continue. I made a delicious casserole-type dish Friday night, with potatoes, chicken sausage, kale, onions, cream and cheese. (And no, it was not the healthiest dish in the world, but it was really, really good). I was sure Roman would at least try it. As you can see from the before and after, despite stabbing at it occasionally –Β while protesting that he already knew he didn’t like it – none of it ever made it into his mouth.

You win some, you lose some.

Some friends of ours were visiting for a quick trip from Philadelphia, so Roman and I met up with them for breakfast Saturday morning. It was so good to see them, even if briefly. They used to live in our neighborhood and we were so sad when they moved away! One of my friends miraculously got this shot of our boys – after trying unsuccessfully for several minutes to corral them into the same spot, have them look at the camera and smile and (nearly impossible) to stay still.

I swear I don’t understand how toddler modeling exists. How on earth do photographersΒ get all those smiling, focused photos for catalogs?

We originally had big plans for Saturday night, to go to a family night at a museum with friends, but Saturday morning Roman woke up at 2am. I don’t mean just had a bad dream and wanted to snuggle back to sleep kind of waking up, I mean he really thought it was morning and time for breakfast and going out to play. It. was. miserable. He finally dropped off to sleep at 6am for about an hour. Is this some kind of weird daylight saving throwback issue? I don’t know, but it sucked and I was exhausted for the rest of the day and we ended up with an early bedtime for all three of us that night.

Sunday morning was lazy as a result – perfect for getting bagels before heading out to the park for some adventuring.

I went running this weekend as well, which was lovely. I did an early evening run, which is not normally when I head out, but I do love that time of day in the Fall and Winter, because the sunsets are so pretty and it’s cool and crisp outside. Take a look at my beautiful ‘backyard’:

In baby bump news, my new little monkey is making him or herself known. The past few days I felt like it never slept, preferring to work on its backflipping (or something). We have a doctor’sΒ appointment this week, so I’m looking forward to seeing the little one on ultrasound.

Speaking of babies, remember Fit Mama Friday JessicaΒ from a coupleΒ of months ago? She had a beautiful little baby girl named Olivia a week ago. Congratulations Jessica! πŸ™‚

Did the time change from last weekend throw anyone else off?

Do your kids pose for photos?Β

    1. I am so thrown off still by how dark it is earlier – I’m always thinking it’s 8pm when it’s 5pm!

  1. Susanna will stop for a photo when she’s up for it.

I tried hard to get a shot of her Saturday night at the beach before the sun set. She was having none of it and clung to my legs. So I shot a few “sisters” photos with her and the baby within.

    1. Oh, I love that! That’s a lovely way of thinking about a photo of a little one leg clinging! πŸ™‚ Not long now and Susanna will meet her sister!!

  2. Your “backyard”really is gorgeous!!!
I was talking to my sister-in-law Friday afternoon and her 3 year old did the same thing – he woke up between 12:30 and 1:00 and wanted to play, eat, watch cartoons. She ended up putting him in bed with her and Sam (brother) but Hays continued to play and talk with just a few little cat naps the rest of the night – weird!

    1. Yup, that’s exactly what we did! I tried to get him back down in his bed but eventually gave up and let him rampage on ours. So weird that your sister-in-law had the same thing happen!

  3. Haha. I never considered toddler photography. They must somehow bribe the kids. So exciting you get to have an ultrasound this week! I’m pretty sure this baby has decided he likes his home and is never coming out. He has been consistently moving and I can’t imagine he is comfortable but all the coaxing I’ve done to get him out doesn’t seem to work!

  4. Oh man with the 2am wake-up! M+V do that sometimes. One of them will wake-up and then they wake the other and start talking and playing like it’s the middle of the day. My husband usually looses it on them and then they cry and fall back to sleep. Being a mom is so awesome sometimes.
Good luck at the doctor!!! Those ultrasounds are so great!!

    1. Stealth, huh? I’m guessing having some kind of burst setting would help too. Right now my problem is that Roman quite likes having his photo taken but he doea his “photo face” where he closes his eyes and bares all his teeth. Little monkey. πŸ™‚
