6 ways I stay balanced

Balance means more than just being able to stand on one leg, it also means being able to do what you love while making healthy choices at the same time. It means putting in the work and still finding time for family. Or eating the truffle friesΒ but balancing it out with salad (not pictured because truly my eating habits during the move have been woeful). Or unpacking boxesΒ and BOSU workoutsΒ at home when you can’t make it to the gym.

Honestly, this week’s challenge couldn’t be more perfect for what’s going on in my life right now! After our big move last week, we are balancing exploring our new city, while still making time to unpack and organize at home. We are balancing eating as healthy as we can, while having to choose eating out and takeout more often than usual. (Although, not for much longer, because I finally have the kitchen and dining area organized and clear!). I am balancingΒ my need to be active by replacing running with squatting and lifting every imaginable box to try to find my sneakers. (It’s worse than when I was desperately trying to find the coffee grinder. I amΒ kicking myself for not having set one pair of running shoes aside so I wouldn’t have to look for them).

Mostly, I think for me balance is all about showing yourself a little kindness and compassion when you can’t quite achieve what you think you’re capable of – we all have ups and downs but fitness and a healthy lifestyle is about consistency, not perfection.

Here are the 6 ways I stay balanced – what are yours?

  • I make time for myself byΒ sharing one-on-one parenting time equally with my husband. (read: I tell him when I need him to take the kids!) πŸ˜‰
  • My favorite me time is going for a run.
  • My rule when it comes to a balanced diet isΒ nothing is off limits or it will become an obsession.
  • I make fitness a priority by scheduling my workouts for the week.
  • When I get stressed or overwhelmed, my go to is going for a run. Or a glass of wine.Β 
  • I cook healthy meals and encourage everyone to be activeΒ to help my family stay balanced.
