There’s a common misconception that fitness professionals are always in peak form, always have it all together when it comes to working out and nutrition and don’t need any help – after all, if they’re a trainer or a coach, they can just use their expertise on themselves, right?
Wrong. And I need help!
My running of late has been lackluster. I feel like every time I go out, I run basically the same distance, with no thought of an actual training plan in mind. I’ve been working out, but nowhere near what my body was used to prior to having Baby T. I actually think I was in better physical condition when I was nearly ten months pregnant. And nutrition? I really thought I was doing okay, but I started using an eating journal recently and I was surprised to realize I’m not hitting my nutrient goals, specifically for calcium and potassium.
Enter the 21 Day Reset Challenge, which Laura offers every year. This year, Laura is amping it up with the help of Team USA Kettlebell competitor Rick Martins and making the reset a focus on strength training for runners.
Here’s what the January Reset for Runners offers this year:
NUTRITION COACHING:
- Meal plan templates, sample meal plans and nutrition tips to maximize fitness and strength
- Healthy, easy seasonal recipes with lots of crockpot ideas
- Emails with tips and motivation
- Group accountability through the private Facebook group
STRENGTH TRAINING COACHING:
- How to incorporate the four phases of strength training into your running plan
- Workouts to become a stronger runner
- Rick Martins’ tips and expertise on becoming a stronger runner through strength training
Even though there’s a focus on strength training for runners, you definitely do not need to be a runner to join in! (Check the bottom of this post for a discount code and link to sign up, too).
This is my first time ever doing any kind of nutrition challenge. I’ve never done Paleo, Whole 30, or any kind of reset. I think I was afraid it would be a restrictive diet, rather than a way to reintroduce myself to healthy nutrition practices. When Laura invited me to join her challenge and blog about the experience, though, I didn’t hesitate to take her up on the offer. If you’ve read Laura’s blog, you know she has a holistic approach to nutrition and fitness and a focus on whole foods and healthy recipes you can easily fit into your lifestyle. That’s the kind of coach I want in my corner.
And I NEED this.
This is where I want to get back to – to the kind of fitness level I had when I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon in 2014, running a PR of 7 minutes and change and probably in the best shape of my life. I’ve got a marathon to tackle this year – it’s time to WORK.
Want to join me? You’ll get a $10 discount with the promo code ‘blog’ when you register here!
Come on, it will be more fun with friends! π
I shared this because, while I’m not a runner π thanks, I sp believe we all all need coaches no matter where we are in life or a skill.

I couldn’t agree more! There’s something about surrounding yourself with people who are smarter and more experienced than you.
I think all of us could use a little help with things come January. Right now funds are not In the budget for something like this but I will be doing something on my own come January. Goodluck!

Good luck to you as well, Lacey! Gotta make up for all the Christmas cookies somehow, right?
You look fierce in that picture!!! But you also look amazing now…and hello, you did just have a baby not that long ago. But these goals are about you and no one else, and yes it is great to have goals and compete with oneself.

Aww, thanks lady. I felt fabulous at that time – I was so strong and fit! It gives me hope for my second post-baby comeback.
So glad you can join us, Carly! There’s something about the energy of a group that makes it easier to get the hard work done. π And I hear you on coaches needing coaches – so very true!

I’m very excited!! π
It’s so hard to get back the fitness after a baby. But you’ve done it before and you’ll do it again. You know what works for you.

Thanks for the encouragement, Char! I just have to get my butt into gear!
ohmygoodness – yes. I totally get this. I’ve been kind of kidding myself that I’ve been “working out” etc and my eating has been terrible. Which is part of the reason why I decided to start the Whole30…and right before the holidays yikes! But seriously, I needed a reset nutrition wise and I need one fitness wise too! So great that you are doing this!

Well my eating hasn’t been terrible, unless you think copious cookies, wine, coffee, chocolate are terrible.
So yes, my eating has been terrible.
