Scenes from a weekend #4

I hope everyone had a great weekend and a lovely Thanksgiving/Chanukah/Thanksgivukah (depending on what you were celebrating!) πŸ™‚ Ours was a lovely four-day break, visiting with family, eating good food and keeping up with my Elf for Health challenges!

We were with family for Thanksgiving and Roman was dressed in his best to celebrate the occasion. All of a sudden he looked like a little grown up in his big boy clothes. He also enjoyed “serenading” the family on a cousin’s toy piano. Those things are surprisingly loud.

Everyone was happy -Fran enjoyed extra time with us, since he had both Thursday and Friday off, Grandma was thrilled to hang with Roman, and I was happy that my cousin Lizzie made her famous bourbon pumpkin pie. (I don’t even like bourbon, but that pie is MAGIC).

The Elf for Health challenges are so much fun! I’m really enjoying having a little mini-goal every day. First up, before leaving for the holiday, was the challenge to try a new workout. I used a workout from one of my favorite sites, Breaking Muscle. I love their articles, but I’d never tried any of their workouts before. I did the Women’s Workout, Cycle 10, Workout 1. I always do my own workouts, so it was new for me to try something programmed by someone else – it really did make it seem more challenging.

Other challenges over the break included making a phone call to someone to tell them you are thankful for them. I chose a friend who is far away, but always there for me. I HATE talking on the phone, so this was a tough challenge. Originally when I saw the list, I had grand plans to call a bunch of people, but that much talking on the phone turned out to be a bit beyond me.

By far the most fun challenge was Saturday: Treat Yourself! πŸ™‚ Um, OKAY!!! It just so happened that one of my good friends, my running buddy Jenny, who moved to LA this summer, was in town this weekend. So my treat was a long overdue running date!! Woo hoo! πŸ™‚ A chilly, chatty, fun 4 miles in the park, followed that evening by cocktails with Jenny and another friend, Elle. It was sad to say goodbye to her (AGAIN!), but we had a lot of fun and I’m glad she was there to help me out with my daily challenge.

Sunday we had brunch with a group of friends in the city – no photos because there were babies involved, so us mamas were busy doing baby/toddler wrangling and trying to keep them happy throughout. I had to do 100 burpees as my daily challenge, so I passed on a brunch cocktail and stuck to green juice instead. Luckily Roman insisted we “Do them ‘gether, Mama!” so he was my burpee partner. His role was mainly laughing a lot and throwing himself on the floor when I got back to the plank position, yelling, “I fall down like Mama!” which was adorable. His vocabulary has now officially expanded to include “Burpee dance” (apparently he thought we were dancing) and he continues to suggest we do a few every now and again. Bossing people around, just like his Mama. πŸ˜‰

What was you favorite part of your weekend?

Do you do burpees? Love them? Hate them?

    1. He continues to suggest burpees as a stalling tactic before bedtime…he might be the only person I know who truly loves them. (His form’s all over the place, though!) πŸ˜‰

  1. What a sweet little boy. It truly looks like you enjoy him 100%, I can’t wait for my little man to arrive!

Burpees. Sigh. lol. I opted for 100 squats rather than burpees due to my belly size. It was at the suggestion of my awesome elf!

    1. Oh, YAY! I was wondering if you joined the elf ranks!! πŸ™‚ That was a wise substitution and I bet you felt it the next day! Heidi, I can’t even begin to describe what fun is in store for you when your little man arrives. You are going to fall head over heels in love!!

  2. Oh, gosh! I hate burpees but with that type of encouragement I’m sure I can get over it.

Your running date sounds like a lot of fun. I am still trying to find a running partner close to me but no luck so far.

    1. My running date was so fun! She lives in CA now, so I am in the same boat as you – usually solo on my runs.
